Eleanor felt the same.

Lillian sighed, sounding thoroughly annoyed. “Honestly, having to get physical just to come back to my own house. What a drag.”

Her words alone were enough to make Hilda and Eleanor’s blood boil.

She had given the orders, let her people put their lives on the line–and here she was complaining about being tired.

What did she even have to be tired about?

With a dismissive wave, Lillian said, “Let them go.”

“Yes.” George nodded, then signaled to the attendant who had been restraining the two

women.

The moment she was free, Eleanor finally felt like she could breathe again.

For a second there, she had truly believed it was over.

That damned Lillian–had she lost her mind? She knew perfectly well that the dissolution between her and Julian wasn’t finalized, which meant Eleanor was still her mother–in–law.

How could she treat family like this? It was beyond outrageous.

Once she’d caught her breath, Eleanor shot Lillian a venomous glare. “You… How dare you do this to me!”

Her throat burned with every word.

But the instant she finished, Lillian’s icy stare silenced her.

Hilda cut in, her voice strained. “Mom, just drop it.”

The back of her hand was swollen and throbbing where it had been stepped on.

The guards Finn had sent with Lillian this time were no joke–she hadn’t stood a chance against them.

Eleanor was on the verge of exploding.

“Let’s go check on Iris. Come on,” Hilda insisted, pulling her mother toward the stairs.

Iris had been discharged from the hospital–she didn’t need to stay any longer, though her pup was still under care there.

Iris hadn’t wanted to leave the medical wing; she’d wanted to remain close to her pup.

But right now, she wasn’t even allowed to see the little one.

The healers had said the pup’s immune system was too fragile, so they were restricting all contact—no visitors, not even a glance.

Eleanor’s chest tightened with fury. Hilda, worried she’d start another confrontation with Lillian, quickly guided her upstairs.

Soon, the room emptied.

Only Lillian’s people remained. One of the attendants turned to George. “Should we tidy up the living room?”

George shook his head. “No. The Graves Pack has their own staff for that.”

The team he’d brought was here solely to attend to Lillian. Why bother with the rest?

The attendants who had cleared out the upstairs rooms had dumped everything into the living room, leaving it in disarray.

Lillian didn’t seem to mind.

That morning, the kitchen staff prepared her broth before moving on to lunch. The Graves Pack’s own cooks couldn’t even get near the kitchen.

As lunchtime approached, they still found themselves locked out.

Iris had no idea what had happened downstairs. When she noticed the swelling on Hilda’s face, and the angry red marks on the back of her hand–clear signs of a struggle–her eyes widened in concern.

“What happened to you?” Iris asked softly.

Hilda’s emotions were all over the place, but she kept her tone steady for Iris.

“Who else? Lillian. She’s completely lost it,” she spat out bitterly.

Just earlier, Lillian had forced her to beg. Who did she think she was?

And now she wanted to move back into Graves Estate?

They were already in the middle of dissolving the mating bond, and here she was, storming back into the house.

Hilda let out a tense breath. “Yeah, that’s how it used to be. Now she’s acting like moving back in is some kind of prize. I think she’s changed her mind–she doesn’t want to break the bond with Julian anymore.”
