With those words, Julian seized her wrist, wrenched the knife from her grip, and sent it clattering to the floor.
He stared down at the blood spreading across his shirt from the wound in his abdomen.
It wasn’t deep–nothing life–threatening–but in that split second when she’d driven the blade into him without the slightest hesitation, Julian felt as though the ground had dropped out from under him.
She really would have killed him. This woman was merciless.
“So that’s why you refused to sever the mate bond?” he ground out, voice taut. “Just to keep us all trapped in this hell? That’s what this is really about, isn’t it?”
The more he spoke, the harder it became to hold back the storm inside him.
Lillian didn’t answer.
She only watched him, her expression unsettlingly calm.
That same detached composure–in just one day, it had pushed nearly everyone in the Graves Pack to the edge.
The whole household was unraveling, and she just sat there, unmoved.
“What were all those years, then?” Julian demanded, pain threading his words. “Tell me, Lillian. What did they mean to you?”
When she had first moved to break the bond, she’d been absolute. Final.
And now, after he’d finally gotten her to agree not to dissolve it… she did this.
Eleanor had sent someone to fetch Julian–Iris wasn’t feeling well again.
But when the attendant saw the blood soaking Julian’s midsection, she panicked and raced back to inform Eleanor.
Eleanor arrived within minutes, Hilda following close behind.
At the sight of her son bleeding, Eleanor went pale with fury.
“Lillian, you vicious little-” She cut herself off, rushing to Julian’s side. “What have you done

now?”
Lillian’s voice was ice. “Get out of my room. All of you.”
Eleanor and Hilda fell silent. Julian said nothing.
Hearing such cold dismissal, Eleanor felt her control snap.

“How could you?” she screamed, whirling back toward Lillian. “After everything he’s done for you! He’s defended you, protected you–he’s your Alpha! How could you stab him?”
Blinded by maternal rage, Eleanor lunged, fingers curled like claws.
Her patience had run out hours ago. Now all she wanted was to make Lillian hurt.
But she’d forgotten one thing–Lillian hadn’t come back unprepared.
The staff posted outside saw Eleanor charge. Two of them surged into the room, grabbing Eleanor and shoving her hard to the floor.
She landed just steps from Lillian, pinned, glaring up with pure hatred.
“Let me go!” Eleanor thrashed. “Lillian!!” she shrieked.
From the couch, Lillian watched, composed as ever, as Eleanor raged helplessly on the
ound.
hat calmness felt like a match to gasoline in Eleanor’s mind.
“Julian!” she yelled, turning on her son now. “Are you really going to keep her in this pack after this?”
If she couldn’t reach Lillian, she’d hammer at Julian instead.
What was the point of keeping an Omega like this among them? One willing to draw an Alpha’s blood?
The room was in chaos.
And into that chaos, Lillian spoke again, tone flat. “Get them out. I’m going to sleep.”
While the others were still shouting, unraveling, she said it like she was commenting on the weather.
Within moments, Hilda and a still–struggling Eleanor were escorted forcefully from the
room.

Hilda, in stunned silence, could never have imagined being ejected from her own home- from her own suite.
Then it was just the two of them.
Lillian rose. “Do I need to have you removed as well?”
“Sever the bond.”
Julian’s voice was hollow, final.
Whatever patience or hope he’d clung to where Lillian was concerned had evaporated.
He was done.
If being bound together meant living like this–if this was all their future held–then there was no point.
Everyone was suffering because of this tie between them.
In that moment, something in Julian broke clean through.
And in its place settled a numb, ringing emptiness.
But even emptiness was better than this endless, vicious cycle.
illian went still.
Hearing him say those words–sever the mate bond–she paused, then slowly, a sharp, wicked smile touched her lips.
It wasn’t like the blank calm from before. This was satisfaction. Triumph.
at smile cut through Julian deeper than any knife.
Lillian settled back onto the couch, saying nothing, that unsettling smile still in place.
