With everything that was currently falling apart around him, he had no clear idea just how much it would cost to make it all go away.
Yet here he was, offering her five billion upfront.
How desperate was he to sever their mate bond?
Julian spoke, his voice low, “Isn’t this what you’ve always asked for? Take the money. Leave the Graves Pack. Leave Gilneas City for good.”
He didn’t want to see her again.
If they were going to end this, it had to be clean–final. With five billion, she could disappear anywhere and live comfortably for the rest of her life.
At that moment, it seemed like the best outcome for both of them was a world where their paths never crossed again.
Lillian arched a brow. “Here’s the problem: I don’t want to break the bond anymore.”
Five billion to buy permanent peace?
To bury all that bitterness forever? Did he really think it would be that simple–that cheap?
Julian’s jaw tightened. “Then tell me, what’s the point of dragging this out? In one day, you’ve turned their lives upside down.”
“Is it really that unbearable for them?” Lillian fired back.
“Isn’t it enough?”
“Enough?” She let out a short, cold laugh. “How could it possibly be enough?”
It had only been one day.
A single day, and they were already miserable enough to want out. But Lillian wasn’t done- not even close.
Julian thought he could just speak up and end things, just like that. He was mistaken.
There was no chance she would let it

“What are you saying?” Julian pressed, agitation rising in his tone.
What did she mean by that?
Was she really refusing to break the bond?

The thought should have thrilled him beyond words, but the icy smirk on Lillian’s lips was too sharp, too deliberate.
It cut through any fleeting relief, making it clear this was far from over.
“It means I’m not ending the bond,” Lillian stated flatly.
Julian fell silent.
He never imagined that hearing those words from her could feel so suffocating.
“What do you want, then?” he finally ground out, anger simmering beneath his controlled
tone.
She wouldn’t take the money? Then what? That number–five billion–was what she had demanded before.
Now he was handing it to her, and she was turning it down.
Lillian tilted her head slightly. “What I want depends on my mood. But ending the mate bond? That’s not happening.”
finality in her voice was absolute.
Julian felt his breath catch, trapped somewhere between inhale and exhale.

Every property tied to the pack had been torn apart that same day. Eleanor had called the police, but so what?
There was no evidence linking any of it to Lillian.
Just like with the pup incident–if they couldn’t prove she was responsible, there was nothing they could do to touch her.
There was no way Iris could continue her recovery at the estate.
After some thought, Eleanor decided to send her to stay at Laurel Manor instead.
The moment she suggested it, both Hilda and Iris turned to look at her.
“Why are you both staring at me like that?” Eleanor asked, irritation clear in her voice.
“Won’t that just provoke her even more?” Hilda questioned cautiously.
Iris added softly, “Eleanor, I’m not sure that’s a good idea.”
Hearing that she could go to Laurel Manor, Iris felt a rush of triumph, though she kept her expression carefully hesitant.
She couldn’t bear another day at the estate–not another hour, really.
Laurel Manor…
Knowing Julian had built it with his own hands, she’d coveted it for years. She’d just never found the right opportunity to ask.
