Chapter 34 Plotting the Slow Roast
Third–Person POV:
Julian’s gaze hardened, something fierce flashing in his eyes. “I said everything. All of it.”
Thomas caught the edge in his voice and nodded quickly. “I’ll contact the pack lawyers right away.”

The Graves Pack was already in turmoil because of Lillian. With Julian now throwing fuel on the fire, peace wasn’t going to be showing its face around here anytime soon.
Ever since she’d been brought to Creekwood Manor, Lillian hadn’t done much except eat. When dinner rolled around, Chloe stopped by.
“Looks like they’re feeding you well here. Glad someone’s looking out for you,” Chloe said, sliding into the seat across from her.
Her own company was slammed. Her father had recently pushed her into taking over more responsibility, and she’d been running herself ragged ever since.
Before she’d known Lillian had a biological brother, Chloe had arranged for some household staff to check in on her. Seeing her now, so well taken care of, put her mind at ease.
Lillian nudged her plate slightly. “I’ve been eating all day. I’m not even hungry anymore.”
“You need to eat, hungry or not. Your body took a real hit with the miscarriage. You have to recover properly,” Chloe insisted, loading a piece of meat onto her plate. “At least you still have an appetite. Some people can’t even bring themselves to look at food right now.”
That “some people” was Iris.
The whole day had passed, and Iris hadn’t touched a drop of water or a single bite of food. Even Eleanor, who usually spoiled her rotten, was too tied up to arrange a meal–she was completely focused on containing the scandal that had blown up everywhere.
After all, Iris was the other woman now…
The Graves Pack, which had always circled the wagons around her, was left thoroughly humiliated.
Lillian gestured for Chloe to help herself.
Chloe was genuinely hungry and dug right in. After a spoonful of soup, her eyes went wide. “Okay, this soup is incredible.”
“That’s venison broth,” Lillian said flatly.
Chloe paused mid–sip. “Wait–didn’t Iris make you prepare this for her constantly when she was pregnant?”
Just thinking about Iris made her skin crawl. Not only had she monopolized Julian at the estate for the past six months, but after giving birth, she’d actually expected Lillian to heal her with mending magic.
The audacity. Did she really think having a powerful Alpha mother and the whole Graves Pack behind her meant she could treat Lillian like some kind of servant?

Well, now she’d waited around for Lillian’s healing that never came–and was probably too wired to eat a thing.
“What’s the next move?” Chloe asked.

Lillian’s voice stayed calm. “Tomorrow, the news goes out that she was the one who hit me with her car three years ago. The one that caused my miscarriage.”
Chloe’s hand, still holding the soup spoon, went still.
Lillian continued, “We release it piece by piece.”
Today was the mating contract registration.
Tomorrow, the hit–and–run from three years ago.
And the day after that? Exposing how she’d stolen Lillian’s Moonvale Eco–Community project.
Finally, the last blow: how she’d kept her husband’s younger brother to herself after giving birth, leading to Lillian’s most recent miscarriage.
Chloe caught on immediately.
“You’re basically slow–roasting them over an open flame.”
Lillian nodded. “Pretty much. They love throwing their weight around. This time, let them feel what it’s like when that weight comes crashing down on them instead.”
For three years, they’d constantly thrown her orphan background in her face–no parents, no pack, no connections.
This time, she’d show them exactly what an orphan with nothing could unleash.
Chloe said, “No surprise, the Graves Pack and Margaret are probably already scheming about how to bury this and figure out how to handle you.”
Lillian let out a cold laugh. “Handle me? They won’t have the time. Tomorrow things spin even further out of control.”
Today was just the beginning.
Lillian’s phone buzzed. An unknown number lit up the screen. She ignored it.
A moment later, a text came through from the same number. “I’m sorry!”
Just from the message, Lillian knew exactly who it was.
Hilda.
Chloe caught a glimpse of the screen. “What’s that about?”
“Hilda apologizing,” Lillian said.
Chloe read it again, noticing the forcefully punched exclamation mark. She snorted. “Doesn’t exactly scream sincere.”
Lillian gave a faint smile. “Sincerity doesn’t matter. She’s just covering her ass for Julian.”
