Chapter 42 The Suspicion Takes Root
Julian’s POV:
Golden Square.
That was where Finn’s biotech company was headquartered.

“Wait–are you trying to say she…” I let the words trail off, but the thought had already crystallized in my mind, whether I wanted it to or not.
Thomas was the one who finally voiced it. “Alpha, do you think it’s possible Lillian’s been working at Finn’s research facility this whole time?”
“Biotech research?” I repeated, my tone coming out sharper than I’d intended. “What would she even do there?”
Still, the pieces were starting to line up, and I hated it. I’d been told Lillian had been going to Golden Square regularly, and let’s be honest–there wasn’t exactly a long list of reasons to be in that part of the city. The only thing that made any sense was Finn’s
company.
My chest tightened at the thought.
Thomas stayed quiet after that. It was just speculation, after all. But if Finn wanted to help her out, he could easily create some bullshit position for her. She wouldn’t even need real qualifications.
I pressed my fingers against my temple, trying to ease the throbbing behind my eyes. “How regular are we talking?”
“For the past six months, she’s gone there every single weekday. Sometimes weekends too.”
I went silent.
The air in the room felt heavy, like it was pressing down on me.
Every weekday. Sometimes weekends. That wasn’t visiting–that was a job.
And weekends probably meant overtime.
Right then, it felt like my lungs were being crushed from the inside.
Six months. She’d been walking out that door every morning, and I hadn’t known a damn thing about it.
I didn’t even remember ending the call. My head was too full of Lillian and Finn, their names tangled together on a loop I couldn’t shut off.
Lillian’s POV:
The next morning at breakfast, George approached the table and said quietly, “Miss, you have a formal dinner to attend tonight The invitation and the gift have already been arranged.”
“Edmund set this up?” I asked.
He nodded.

“Then just pick me up directly from the biotech company in the afternoon,” I told him.
“Of course. I’ll be there at four,” George replied softly.
“Did those photos from the procedure go out?” I asked.
George confirmed, “They did. There’s even more buzz about it today than yesterday.”
I allowed myself a small smile at that.
“Good.”
No need to say more. The entire Graves Pack was probably in an uproar again.

Did Iris really think being the pack’s precious princess, with her Alpha mother backing her every move, would protect her from everything?
Well, today she was going to learn the hard way that none of that could save her now.
“Tomorrow, release the details about my car accident from two years ago,” I said.
George nodded. “Yes, Miss.”
I took a slow spoonful of oatmeal.
One piece of truth every single day. And for Iris, each one would hit harder than the last.
I wanted her to suffer. I wanted her to wish she’d never been born–slowly, painfully, one revelation at a time.
After finishing breakfast quickly, I had George drive me to the biotech company.
The car pulled up at the entrance to Golden Square.
Just as I was about to step out, George called after me, “Should I come back and get you for lunch?”
“No need,” I said, shaking my head. The research was still in early stages, and I had my hands full.
George pressed gently, “Then I’ll bring lunch to you around noon. Mr. Langley was very clear–you’re not supposed to be eating just anything while you’re still recovering.”
I hesitated, then nodded. “Fine.”
Honestly, I felt completely fine physically, but both Chloe and Edmund kept insisting I needed proper rest and good food. Thank goodness Edmund wasn’t here in person–he’d probably never let me leave the house.
After saying goodbye to George, I started walking toward the lab deeper in the financial district
But the moment I rounded the corner, I froze. Julian was standing there,
He was leaning against the cold tile wall next to the elevator, a half–smoked cigarette dangling between his fingers. His long legs were impossible to miss.
He was wearing the exact same clothes he’d had on when he left yesterday.

He must have stayed at the hospital with Iris all night and never gone home to change.
Now he was staring at me, completely still.
I stared back, just as motionless, just as cold.
After a long moment, I finally spoke, “What are you doing here?”
