Chapter 43 A Vicious Confrontation
Chapter 43 A Vicious Confrontation
Third–Person POV:
Julian stood there, torn between rage and something that felt dangerously close to helplessness.
Lillian, still pinned against his chest, narrowed her eyes. “Let go of me.”
Her voice was ice–completely empty of any warmth.

So cold, in fact, that Julian found himself wondering what she must sound like when she talked to Finn. Did she soften for him? Did she smile?
The thought made his grip tighten involuntarily.
“Lillian, the mate bond between us isn’t broken yet. You need to watch yourself. Keep those… inappropriate thoughts in check.”
Lillian shot back without missing a beat, “If you’re so convinced I’m cheating on you and you want to break the bond, then go ahead. But don’t stand here trying to police my thoughts. I’m not the one you should be worrying about.”
Her defiance was absolute.
Something about the way she said “I’m not the one“-combined with the look on her face that practically dared him to sever the connection–made Julian laugh, low and dangerous.
“Break the bond?” He repeated the words like they offended him. “Don’t hold your breath. It’s not happening. Not ever.”
He meant it. He’d never let her go.
Hearing the absolute certainty in his voice, Lillian closed her eyes for a brief moment. Then, without warning, she drove her knee upward toward the most vulnerable part of his anatomy.
But Julian had apparently been expecting it. His thigh pressed down, blocking the strike before it could land.
Lillian glared up at him, frustration burning in her eyes.
He swept her up into his arms like she weighed nothing. “You vicious little–do you really want to ruin your own future happiness that badly?”
“For the last time,” she bit out, her voice flat. “Put me down.”
The smell of Iris clung to his suit, and as it hit her senses, her expression twisted with disgust. Iris‘ scent on him was everywhere now–persistent, unavoidable, like she’d marked him somehow.
Julian glanced down at her. “Stop fighting me.”
Lillian shut her eyes again. “I gave you a chance.”
“A chance to do what-”
He didn’t get to finish.
Before Julian could react, Lillian’s arms–which had been looped loosely around his neck–suddenly locked tight. She drove her

forehead straight into his temple with everything she had.

The impact was brutal. A sharp ringing exploded inside Julian’s skull, and his vision blurred at the edges, dark spots swimming in front of his eyes.
“Lillian!”
The pain forced him to set her down, rage flooding through him.
Lillian, apparently unfazed by her own headbutt, immediately put distance between them. Away from the cloying scent of Iris, she finally felt like she could breathe again.
She straightened her bag on her shoulder and turned to walk away.
Julian’s hand shot out, grabbing her wrist. “You little–ahh…”
His temple throbbed viciously, like his brain had been rattled loose.
Lillian looked down at where his fingers wrapped around her skin and let out a cold laugh. “You want another one?”
“Go ahead.” Julian’s voice was pure venom. “If you’ve got the nerve, try to kill me. Right here. Right now.”
He was livid. Absolutely livid.
After everything he’d done for her, all the years of–this was how she repaid him? By trying to cave his skull in?
Enraged, Lillian swung her bag and smacked him with it. Hard.
Julian stared, dumbfounded. “You-!”
When had she turned into this? She used to be so gentle, so soft.
Guess even the most docile she–wolf could grow claws eventually.
Lillian tilted her head, studying him. “You want to see how much nerve I’ve got?”
Julian, who had been raised his entire life as future Alpha of the pack, who commanded respect wherever he went, who had built a reputation in werewolf society as someone you didn’t cross–stood there watching Lillian systematically dismantle every boundary he had.
When Julian just glared at her, speechless with fury, Lillian added, “Or maybe you actually want to die? Here’s a thought–why don’t you stand in front of my car? I promise I’ll run you over”
She delivered the words “run you over” with particular precision, letting each syllable land like a blade.
Julian’s jaw tightened so hard his teeth ached
“Fine.” He grabbed her arm, pulling her toward the street. “Run me over. Come on. Do it.”
He was already dragging her toward the exit when Finn appeared
Julian’s anger, already barely contained, spiked at the sight of him. He yanked Lillian closer, positioning her against his side–a

territorial move, instinctive and undeniable.
Lillian blinked, surprised to see Finn here.
She greeted him evenly. “Finn.”
Her voice was noticeably softer than it had been a moment ago. Noticeably different.
Julian caught it immediately. His temper flared hotter.
Lillian tried to pull her hand free, but Julian’s grip only tightened. He shot her a warning look.
She held back–barely–from smacking him across the face with her bag in front of Finn.
Finn’s gaze settled on Lillian, sharp and assessing. “Did you catch a chill last night after you went back? The wind and rain were brutal on that bridge.”
The concern in his voice–directed at her–made Julian’s wolf want to tear through his skin and sink its teeth into something.
Julian’s voice came out as a snarl. “I’m still standing right here, Finn.”
Finn didn’t even glance at him. But Lillian did. She looked at Julian and said flatly, “Then go stand somewhere else.”
Julian’s glare could’ve burned holes through her.
Lillian ignored him completely, turning back to Finn with a small shake of her head. “I’m fine.”
Finn gave a slight nod, said nothing more, and walked past them.
From start to finish, he didn’t acknowledge Julian’s presence. Not a glance. Not a word. Nothing.
Seething, Julian’s grip on Lillian’s hand tightened unconsciously. “Do I not exist to either of you?”
What the hell was Finn’s problem? With everything falling apart, what kind of game was he playing?
Lillian winced at the pressure on her hand. “Did you and Iris treat me like I existed?”
At the mention of Iris‘ name, Julian’s expression darkened instantly.
Lillian tried to pull away again, but he refused to let go.
