Victor hurried off to handle the admission paperwork, while Finn simply scooped Lillian up and carried her straight toward the emergency room.
Cradled in Finn’s arms, Lillian was barely conscious.
“Thank you… for today,” she murmured.
Finn’s voice was tight. “Why didn’t you call me?”
Lillian stayed silent.
Call Finn? The thought hadn’t even crossed her mind.
When she’d realized something was wrong back at Inkwood Gardens, her first instinct had been to notify George.
“How… did you know?” she whispered.
Finn had arrived around the same time as George, after all.
Finn didn’t answer how he’d gotten the news. Nor did he tell her that he’d rushed back covered in dust and exhaustion–having flown in by helicopter from the neighboring city.
Lillian was wheeled into the emergency room.
By the time Victor finished the paperwork and rushed to the ER, he ran into Julian near the elevators.
Julian was trailed by a full medical team.
The hospital director followed behind him, looking nervous and deferential.
Victor instinctively moved to stop Julian and tell him about Lillian.
But before he could step forward, he heard Julian say to the director, his voice low and urgent, “Do whatever it takes. That pup has to survive.”
The director wiped his brow and nodded quickly. “Understood. I’ve already assembled a specialized team.”
Iris‘ pup was in trouble.
So his own Luna had nearly bled to death, and he had no idea? He was here instead, making careful arrangements for Ins‘ pup?
The most expert medical team, his meticulous planning… He was really thorough, wasn’t he?
Right then, Victor suddenly understood why Finn supported dissolving Julian’s bond with Lillian.
If they didn’t end this mating bond…

Especially after today–with that Margaret woman. The ambulance had been right outside, but under her intimidation, no one had dared go in to help.
Julian noticed Victor and frowned. “What are you doing here?”
“What am I doing here?” Victor shot back. “Julian, you should have been the one to bring-”
“Alpha Julian, the specialist team just arrived.”
Before Victor could finish, the director interrupted, having just taken a call.
Hearing that the relevant specialists were here, Julian immediately turned his attention away from Victor.
He turned and walked off with the director, already discussing the pup’s condition as they went.
Victor stared at Julian’s retreating back, then kicked a nearby trash can in frustration.
“Damn it.”
Why did he have to be stuck with a brother like this?
By the time Lillian was moved out of the emergency room, Chloe had gotten the news and rushed over.
Down on the first floor, Chloe first ran into Julian. He was carrying Iris‘ pup, accompanied by a medical team, heading somewhere -she didn’t know where.
Then she passed Margaret.
Margaret looked like she’d been beaten by someone. When Chloe saw her, she was lying on a gurney, covered in blood, being wheeled away for treatment.
When Chloe reached the hospital room and saw Lillian lying pale in the bed, her heart ached.
“Why the bleeding? Was it too much strain these past couple of days?”
The doctor beside Lillian, who was adjusting her IV drip, answered, “She just had a miscarriage. Her body is very fragile right now. Don’t rush to give her blood–building tonics–overdoing it could overwhelm a female’s system and cause more harm”
“Overdoing tonics?” Chloe said, confused. “We haven’t given her any. We just made some plain chicken soup.”
Was chicken soup not allowed either? What could she eat then?
Chloe was about to ask the doctor when Lillian’s hand closed around her wrist
Chloe looked at Lillian, puzzled. Lillian gave a slight shake of her head.
Once the doctor had adjusted the medication and carefully gone over the precautions with Chloe, he left.
Only when they were alone did Chloe take Lillian’s hand and ask, “What happened? What did you take?”

Lillian replied, “This morning, Julian forced me to drink a bowl of medicinal tonic soup. It was probably too potent… My body couldn’t handle it.”
Chloe’s mouth twitched.
