Chapter 73 Never Pregnant
Lillian’s POV:
But I got it–he’d gone to every single doctor who had examined me, and they’d all told him the exact same thing: I wasn’t pregnant.
So what else was there to say, really?
Margaret had enough pull in this city to make something like that happen without breaking a
sweat.
When I didn’t respond, Julian picked up a bite of my favorite food and held it to my lips.
His voice dropped, soft and soothing, like he could calm me down. “Hey. One day, we’ll have a pup. Okay?”
That attempt at comfort only made things worse.
The second the words left his mouth, my anger shot straight through the roof.
“Who the hell are you to talk to me about having a pup?”
We were already here–already broken beyond repair.
And he still had the nerve to imagine we’d raise a child together? What a joke.
In that moment, Julian looked pathetic to me. Completely ridiculous.
He didn’t say a word.
I knocked the spoon right out of his hand, sending the whole lunch tray crashing to the floor.
The air in that hospital room turned cold–icy, even.
“Don’t even go there. There’s no ‘us‘ anymore, so how the hell would there ever be a pup?”
He was still thinking about pups.
“Or maybe, bringing up pups now–are you feeling sorry for me?”
I kept sneering. “Are you trying to tell me that no matter how tangled up you get with Iris, you’ll still give me a pup to lean on in the Graves Pack?”

Third–Person POV:
“That’s not what I meant.” Facing Lillian’s interpretation, Julian felt a headache coming on.
Lillian acted as if she hadn’t heard him, continuing on her own. “I never needed that before, so why would I want it now?”
Before, she hadn’t needed it.
Now, she refused to accept it.
Julian clearly understood the difference between those two statements–a chill settled over his expression.
Lillian spoke again, “I mean what I say. You agree to dissolve the mate bond, and I’ll leave Iris alone.”
She brought up what she had said earlier in the room once more.
Dissolve the mate bond! Dissolve the mate bond!
Julian was so angry his temples throbbed. “Don’t even think about it. Dissolving our mate bond is absolutely out of the question!”
“Fine, then. I’ve got plenty of time to make Iris‘ life miserable.”
Wasn’t he so worried about Iris‘ depression?
Well, she’d see how long Iris could hold up–and how long Julian could stand watching Iris suffer.
Julian’s voice was tight. “How much more do you have?”
“A lot.” Lillian threw out the two words without hesitation.
Hearing “a lot“, Julian’s head pounded even harder.
Over the past three days, the gossip throughout Gilneas City had already torn Iris and the entire Graves Pack to shreds.
If she kept releasing more…
Julian’s tone turned accusatory. “Using such harsh tactics to force me to agree to dissolve our bond? Are you that eager to be with Finn?”

The mention of Finn made Lillian’s face darken.
She grabbed the water pitcher from the bedside table and hurled it straight at Julian.
It hit him, then tumbled to the floor and shattered into pieces.
Facing Lillian’s icy glare and defiant energy, Julian’s expression grew even stormier.

Lillian fired back, “Being with you nearly cost me my life, and you have the nerve to bring up Finn? What right do you have to talk about Finn?”
That line-“nearly cost me my life“-clearly referred to what had happened that morning at Inkwood Gardens.
Julian’s breath caught. “I told you, I’ll give you an explanation for what happened this morning.”
Lillian shot back, “By giving me Margaret’s life as that explanation?”
Julian fell silent.
Lillian pressed on, “The time she wasted at Inkwood Gardens this morning nearly took half my life, didn’t it? I’m someone who likes to repay things double.
“Since you said you’d give me an explanation, using her life for it isn’t too much to ask, is it?”
An explanation?
Then let it be that kind of explanation!
The air went still again.
The entire hospital room felt tense, charged with hostility…
Lillian stared hard at Julian, her eyes unyielding, while Julian’s breathing grew quicker and more ragged.
He wasn’t the type to take pressure lying down.
Lillian was doing this on purpose!
Lillian’s POV:
Just when I thought he’d be angry enough to storm out, the man let out a low, derisive laugh.
