I couldn’t make out what was being said on the other end of the line–just that it was a man’s voice.
Once the caller finished speaking, Julian let out a low, bloodthirsty chuckle into the phone. “So you’ve talked it over? Fine. Let her come apologize to my Luna personally.”
As he said this, Julian glanced my way.
Hearing his words, I pretty much figured out that the call was from someone on Margaret’s side.
And Julian said… an apology?
I’d just told him that Margaret had nearly taken half my life this morning at Inkwood Gardens. And now his response was… an apology?
How ironic was that…
Or was my life, Lillian’s life, really so worthless in Julian’s eyes?
Lost in thought, I didn’t catch what else Julian said to the person on the phone.
It wasn’t until Julian’s palm covered the back of my hand that I snapped back to reality.
I looked at Julian, my eyes calm in a way they’d never been before.
Maybe I’d never been important to Julian in the first place.
So even nearly losing half my life only earned me those two words–an apology.
“Did you hear all of that?”
I replied, “Yeah, I heard.”
Hearing the tenderness in his voice now felt more bitterly ironic than anything I’d ever known.
I heard…
I heard him fight for an apology over the half of my life that was nearly taken!

What a weighty apology that was.
He really went through a lot for that, huh…
Julian asked, “Are you satisfied now?”

Satisfied now–what a line. So this was really the so–called explanation he was giving me?
Julian added, “Margaret has never bowed her head to anyone in all her years in Gilneas City.”
I sneered, “Then I should feel truly honored. The explanation you’ve given me really carries some weight, doesn’t it?”
Margaret never bowed her head, so now that Julian had secured this for me, I was supposed to be grateful?
A sarcastic smile tugged at my lips.
The air in the hospital room grew tense once more.
The Alpha’s warm palm withdrew from the back of my hand. He shot me a dark look.
“You’ve stirred up the whole of Gilneas City these past few days. They’ve faced the consequences you wanted–isn’t that enough?”
Listening to Julian’s increasingly stern tone, I just stared back at him in silence.
Did he really think I’d caused all this trouble just to punish them?
Meeting Julian’s gaze–now clearly dangerous, the first time I’d seen such a look since we were bound–it was obvious how angry he was over what had happened to Iris.
I let out a scoff. “Are you saying I should stop now?”
Julian shot back, “What more do you want?”
I retorted, “After all the effort I put in, Iris‘ dream of becoming your Luna is completely shattered. You must be pretty disappointed too, aren’t you?”
Punishment?
If this was about punishing Iris, then this was more than enough.
Her scheming over the past six months had all been about becoming Julian’s Luna.

Now, if she dared to bond with Julian, every rumor swirling through Gilneas City would be
confirmed!
Unless she planned to never leave her house again, the gossip and scorn from everyone in Gilneas City would drown her.
Julian’s already grim expression darkened further.
“I know you’re upset about what my mother did, but when you first joined the Graves Pack, Iris treated you well.”
Hearing that word–well–I fell silent again.
My face was colder than it had ever been.
So I understood now–not only did Julian refuse to believe what happened with my pregnancy and miscarriage, he didn’t even believe that Iris had set me up.
Seeing that I wasn’t responding, Julian went on.
“I’ve already had Thomas arrange for a lawyer to transfer everything that belongs to you back into your name.”
“When?”
The moment Julian finished speaking, I cut in with the most sarcastic tone I could muster.
Julian was taken aback.
He probably expected someone with my current temper to say something like, “I don’t need it!”
“If you’re transferring it back to me, just give me a clear timeline.”
Transferring everything back to me–now that would be interesting.
Given how fiercely Eleanor had come after me before, there was no way she’d willingly return what she’d taken from me.
Let it all fall apart. Let the Graves Pack explode into chaos once more…
Julian said, “Within three days.”
