The belt in George’s hand cracked viciously against Anna’s body.
“Bitch! How dare you threaten me? How dare you ask me for money!”

Humiliated and furious, George kept lashing her with the belt to vent his rage.
He only stopped when she finally passed out.
He ordered the servants, “Lock this whore in the storage room. No one opens that door without my permission!”
That night, one of the Cunningham servants quietly unlocked the storage room and helped Anna out. “Mr. Cunningham isn’t coming home tonight. You need to leave now.”
Anna immediately removed the gold bracelet from her wrist and handed it to the servant. “Cover for me. I’ll go upstairs, change into something clean, and then I’ll go.”
Ten minutes later, Anna fled the Cunningham Residence after emptying George’s safe of every bar of gold and all the cash inside.
Before she left, she dumped two full packets of rat poison into the rice cooker that was set to make meal on a timer.
After several hours of moving from place to place, Anna finally found Zera hiding in an old, run–down house on the outskirts of Vleka.
When Anna opened the black bag filled with gold bars and cash, Zera’s eyes lit up instantly.
“Mom, you always know what to do. I knew God wouldn’t abandon me.”
Trying to ignore the pain all over her body, Anna told Zera, “All the money I’ve secretly saved over the years is in an overseas bank. We’ll leave tonight. Once we’re abroad, I’ll get you a new identity. The police will never find you.”
Anna grabbed Zera’s arm, ready to take her away, but Zera hesitated.
Anna’s offshore account held at most a few tens of millions. How long could that really last her?
She was the only remaining bloodline of the Hills‘ second branch. She refused to believe the

Seeing Zera hesitate, Anna quickly tried to persuade her. “Zera, you killed Shirley. That’s a capital crime. The police are searching everywhere for you. If you don’t leave now, it’ll be too late!”
Zera shook her head. “Mom, I can’t just run. I’m the only heir of the Hills‘ second branch. Half of the Hills‘ assets should be mine. As long as they’re willing to pay, I’m not going to prison.”
Anna grew nervous, her palms damp with sweat. “Zera, don’t be stupid. One of the Cunningham servants told me Mrs. Natasha went to Calmwood Abbey early this morning. And the Hills already held a press conference cutting ties with you. If you go to them now, you’re walking straight into a trap!”
Calmwood Abbey?
Zera suddenly had an idea. “Mom, Calmwood Abbey isn’t far from here. Let’s go find Mrs. Natasha!”
Without money, even if she escaped abroad, she would be nothing more than a rat scurrying through gutters.
She had lived poor for over 20 years, and she would rather die than go back to that life.
She was the only daughter of Natasha’s beloved youngest son, and she had even donated a kidney to Natasha.
Even if the rest of the Hills refused to help her, Natasha definitely would.
And even if Natasha wouldn’t save her outright, she would at least give her enough money to
run.
She couldn’t just give up.
Zera shoved Anna aside and hurried out of the yard.
Anna panicked and rushed after her.
Thankfully, Calmwood Abbey wasn’t far from Zera’s hiding place. Before dawn, the two of them reached the foot of the mountain.
Afraid of being discovered, they hid in the woods for the entire day, waiting until it was fully dark before daring to enter Calmwood Abbey.
A faint sense of dread rose in Anna’s chest. “Zera, listen to me. We need to leave right now. Don’t go looking for Mrs. Natasha.”

But Zera refused to give in. “Mom, this is an abbey. Of course it’s quiet with barely anyone around. Stop scaring yourself. Once I see Grandma and get the money, we’ll leave immediately.”
The two of them slipped through several corridors until they reached Natasha’s room.
Natasha had been meditating. When she heard movement and opened her eyes, Zera had already rushed forward and clamped a hand over her mouth.
Natasha stared at the mother and daughter in shock.
Her son and grandson had been right, these two really had come for her.
Zera’s hands trembled, and her heart was pounding.
She lowered her voice and pleaded, “Grandma, I only came because I had nowhere else to go. Don’t scream and I’ll let you go.”
Natasha quickly nodded, and Zera slowly released her.
Both mother and daughter dropped to their knees in front of Natasha.
Zera burst into tears. “Grandma, I didn’t mean to kill her. Shirley attacked me first. Please help me, Grandma. I don’t want to go to prison!”
Natasha’s eyes softened with pity. “Zera, listen to me, turn yourself in. Once you’re inside, I’ll use every connection I have to get you out as soon as possible.”
“No!”
Zera’s eyes went wide and wild, like brass bells. If I go to prison, my life is over!”
Anna immediately echoed her. “Mrs. Natasha, Zera is your youngest son’s only child. You can’t let her go to prison!”
Natasha tried again. “Zera, if you go in and truly work to change, I will set aside money for you, enough that you’ll never struggle to survive once you’re released.”
The moment Zera heard that Natasha had money prepared for her, she became instantly excited.
She grabbed Natasha’s hand and said…
