Tyrone released Aella and told the driver to take her to the Reids. Aella grabbed his arm and turned to Noel instead. “Get in the car.”
Noel climbed obediently into the front passenger seat and pulled the door shut.
Aella took Tyrone’s hand in both of hers. “Tyrone, we have a history with Zera and her mother. You cannot admit that you threw them into the ocean to get back at them.”
Her words came quickly. “When you go to the station, tell them Zera, her mother, and Jenny were diving and got into trouble, that we came across them by accident, and that we went in immediately to help. Say it had nothing to do with you.”
They looked at each other. Tyrone pulled her close. “Alright. I’ll say exactly that.”
He hadn’t expected this. Not a word of blame, and she was already working out how to protect
him.
Aella held his hand and didn’t let go. “Tyrone, I’m coming with you. I’ll be your witness.”
He hesitated for just a moment. “We’ll go together. You wait in the car.”
He needed to get this settled quickly. He couldn’t let her go on worrying.
Aella nodded and agreed without argument.
This time, Tyrone didn’t try to push her away.
An hour later, Aella and Tyrone arrived together at the entrance of the police station.
As they stepped out of the car, Aella spotted representatives from the Cunninghams, the Townsends, and the Hills already gathered outside, talking among themselves.
The three families noticed Aella and Tyrone at the same moment.
Carlee, supported on both sides, lurched toward them the instant she saw them. “You murderers! Give me back my grandchild!”
She came with real force. Tyrone stepped in front of Aella and held her against him. Noel moved up with the bodyguards and stopped Carlee several paces away.
Aella, who was never short of things to say on an ordinary day, said nothing. She trusted Tyrone’s ability to handle this. He would find a way through it.

Tyrone surveyed the gathered crowd and looked back at Carlee without a flicker of expression. “Mrs. Carlee, you should be more careful with your words than with your food.”
George, noticing that the Townsends and the Hills had stayed silent throughout, moved to intercept Carlee.
quickly
He stepped forward and bowed his head to Tyrone. “Mr. Winter, please don’t take offense. My mother is only grieving for my wife and the unborn child. I hope you won’t hold her words against her.”
Tyrone looked down at him briefly and didn’t respond.
Aella, seeing that neither of the other two families had moved to confront them, stayed quietly at Tyrone’s side and kept her mouth shut.
Tyrone looked over the representatives of all three families, then gave Noel a glance. Noel stepped forward two paces.
He spoke with a composed, serious expression. “Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Winter arranged this trip to accompany his fiancée out on the water. Every detail of the itinerary, including the specific location where the cruise ship anchored in open water, was organized by me personally. Mr. Winter and Ms. Reid had no knowledge that Mrs. Cunningham, Ms. Caldwell, and Ms. Townsend were also out on the water that day. Therefore, Mrs. Carlee’s accusation that Mr. Winter committed deliberate murder does not hold.”
Carlee went on sobbing over her unborn grandchild and paid no attention to a word Noel said. George, defeated, had no choice but to order someone to take his mother away by force.
Once Carlee was gone, Noel continued.
“In addition to Mr. Winter, Ms. Reid, and Ms. Winter, I was present on that cruise ship along with more than a dozen Winter family bodyguards.”
He paused briefly. “Mr. Brad was also present. If any of you have doubts about what I am about to say, you are welcome to verify it directly with Mr. Brad at any time.”
Matthew looked at the people on either side of him. “Brad was there?”
Neither of them had heard anything about this. Both shook their heads.
Noel pressed on. “The situation was as follows. Ms. Caldwell and Ms. Townsend encountered difficulties while diving. We picked up Mrs. Cunningham’s emergency signal and located their yacht.
“Mr. Winter immediately ordered us to throw life rings to assist them. Unfortunately, Mrs.
