Chapter 104
Serena had to re–evaluate the relationship between Beatrice and Eliana.
She hadn’t paid it much mind before, but Beatrice treated Eliana better than her own daughter.
Serena’s brow furrowed. “That can’t be right.‘
But she was in a hurry to find Kendall Brett and pushed the unsettling idea aside.

After she left, Dylan stepped out from the shadows, his eyes following Serena’s slender figure, lost in thought.
The events of the past were a confusing mess, and he knew he needed to dig deeper.
As he turned, he saw Eliana walking toward him, her eyes red and swollen from crying.
She stood beside him, her voice thick with self–pity. “Dylan, I didn’t mean to do it back then. I just thought the design sketches were beautiful, so I picked them up to look.
“I must have accidentally mixed them in with my own work and submitted the wrong ones. And what happened today with Mrs. Ashford… I swear, I had no idea she would do something like that.”
Dylan stared at her, the seeds of doubt about the past already taking root. He now knew his mother had accompanied Eliana abroad all those years ago, a fact he’d been completely unaware of. “Let’s go,” he said, his voice flat and devoid of emotion.
Eliana looked at his retreating back in shock. His silence was far more frightening than any angry outburst would have been.
That woman, Stella, was a jinx. Nothing good ever happened when she was around.
Serena found Kendall in the parking lot just as she was about to get into her car. “Mrs. Brett!” Serena called out, jogging over.
Kendall turned, a faint, pleasant smile gracing her lips when she saw who it was. “Ms. Hale.”
Serena gave a self–deprecating laugh. “Please, in front of you, I’m hardly a master. Just call me Serena. Mrs. Brett, could I have three minutes of your time? There’s something I’d like to discuss with you.”
Kendall had a good impression of Serena. She studied her striking face and said, “You know, even if you hadn’t found me, I was planning to find you. I’d love for you to model for me. With your face and those long legs, you were tailor–made for the fashion world.”
Serena smiled, a little embarrassed. “Thank you for the high praise, Mrs. Brett. I was actually hoping to offer you the position of Design Director at my company. I’m a huge admirer of your work.”
“Oh?” Kendall looked surprised. “And which company is that?”

“Seryn Vogue. I just renamed it,” Serena said with a sincere tone. “And don’t worry, it’s very well–funded.”
Kendall had her own design company, but a lack of capital had kept it from growing.
Still, she had her reservations.
“Serena, it’s a pleasure to meet you, but could you give me some time to think about it? I have a child at home who isn’t well, so my schedule isn’t very flexible.”
“That’s no problem at all,” Serena quickly assured her. “You can work from home and just come into the office for meetings when you need to. A designer’s creativity dries up if they’re stuck in an office all day. A little freedom can lead to a burst of inspiration.
“Plus, for our annual team–building, I plan on sending our designers to travel and find new ideas.”
A genuine, happy smile spread across Kendall’s face. “Serena, that sounds wonderful. You’re absolutely right. Let’s exchange numbers. I’ll give you an answer by tomorrow afternoon at the latest.”
The position of Design Director was incredibly appealing, and with her daughter’s medical bills, she desperately needed the money.
