“Are you certain she underwent liver transplant surgery?” Dylan demanded, his question overlapping with the chaos.
Before the doctor could answer, a dark figure stormed into the corridor. Chris grabbed the doctor by the collar, his voice a low growl. “Where is she?”
He had been following up on the investigation into Eliana when he saw the wreckage of Serena’s car. Tracing her there was the only thing on his mind.
The doctor, startled and indignant, flinched at the murderous glint in the man’s red–rimmed eyes. “I… I don’t know who you’re talking about.”
“Stella Hale,” Chris bit out.
The doctor pointed shakily toward the resuscitation room. “In there. She’s critical. She needs a blood transfusion, immediately.”
Chris’s heart clenched. ‘Dylan Ashford, you’re dead.’
He turned his dark, furious gaze on Dylan. “Dylan Ashford, you and that bitch of yours will pay for this. You dare hurt Stella? I will make the Ashford family disappear from this world.”
Dylan frowned, his own eyes turning icy. ‘Who the hell is this man?’
He gnashed his teeth. “I’m the one who saved Stella! What nonsense are you spouting?”
Chris scoffed. “It was you and Eliana. You tampered with Stella’s car, messed with the brakes.
“Then you had someone ram her vehicle from behind, forcing it off the bridge.
“The driver’s been caught. Turns out it’s your family’s butler, Pierre Walker. What kind of saint are you pretending to be
here?”
Dylan was furious. “Shut up! I would never do anything to hurt Stella!”
He thought, ‘He had only wanted to make her apologize to Eliana. Now I’m being framed. But… why would Pierre be involved?‘
Chris didn’t waste more words on him. That reckoning would come later. He pushed past the doctor and into the treatment
area.
Soon after, a medical helicopter arrived, and Serena was transferred to a top–tier private facility.
A month later, Serena was finally on the mend.
During that month, Dylan had searched for her frantically, to no avail.
In Cloudmere Estate, Serena stood by the floor–to–ceiling window, her soft hair cascading around her shoulders. Her gaze was cool as it took in the view outside, but her face was pale with lingering fatigue.
Thinking of the information Chris had brought her, a fresh wave of heartache washed over her. Dylan, I never thought you could be this cruel.

Chapter 11
The Ashford family had been bankrupt. She had used her own resources and connections to lift them to the pinnacle of success. And this was her reward.
She had given Dylan part of her liver, healed his legs, served his family diligently. And this was how it ended.
The terrifying depths of human nature disappointed her once again.
Serena had loved a scoundrel, associated with harmful people. She had experienced it all.
She had known Pierre for years. At the Ashford family, he had always been diligent and proper. For him to suddenly do such a thing. his motive was highly suspect.
Eliana was the one who wanted her dead. Yet, Pierre became the weapon.
Serena narrowed her intelligent, frosty eyes. A fleeting thought passed through her mind, too quick to grasp.
“Ms. Hale, it’s time for your medicine. You mustn’t catch a chill.” Chris’s calm voice sounded as he entered, carrying a tray with a bowl of steaming chicken soup.
Serena turned. He had bathed and changed. His handsome, refined features glowed softly under the lamplight.
“Chris, thank you,” she said, her voice slightly hoarse.
Chris smiled. “Ms. Hale, there’s no need for formalities. Please finish this and get some rest early. I will handle the matter of the accident. The butler, Pierre Walker, has turned himself in.”
Serena nodded. “Alright. You should rest too.”.
She waited until Chris left before returning to her room to rest.
A headache was coming on. She found medicine in the drawer, took it, and glanced at the time. It was very late.
She sat in a daze for a long while before finally going to sleep.
Dylan hadn’t slept well for a month, ever since Stella’s disappearance.
Lately, he found himself wanting to avoid Eliana.
The reason Pierre gave for trying to kill Stella was because of the incident at the hospital where Stella had pushed Eliana. He claimed he acted on his own, seeking “justice” for Liam.
The excuse was flimsy, but no other motive could be uncovered. That was the story, and it stuck.
Dylan’s handsome face was etched with tiredness. Looking at his surroundings, he felt a strange sense of confusion.
