“Dylan,” Beatrice said, rushing to his side, her face etched with anxiety.

Eliana looked at Dylan, her expression pained. “Dylan, this is all my fault. You stopped your treatment because I came back. I’ll go beg Stella right now. I’ll get her to save you.”
The sight of the two women on the verge of tears only irritated Dylan.
A sickly pallor clung to his handsome features, giving him a dangerously alluring edge.
“Don’t bother,” he said. “I have six months. I’ll get the company’s affairs in order and leave you both with more than enough to live on. I’ve been enough trouble for Stella over the years. Besides, she thinks I had something to do with what happened to our child. She’s not going to save me.”
Beatrice and Eliana felt like they had just shot themselves in the foot.
A boisterous, arrogant laugh echoed from the doorway.
Dylan’s expression hardened as he looked toward the entrance, where his uncle, Rowan, stood scowling.
Rowan strolled in with a malicious grin. He looked at Dylan, pale in the hospital bed, and sneered,
“So, Dylan, only six months left. What makes you think you can still compete with me? A few years ago, you had that little bitch Stella protecting you. But this one,” he gestured to Eliana, “she’s just a pretty face. She can’t protect you.
“I have to thank your mother for insulting Stella every day, and your old flame here for coming back. It’s because of them you and Stella finally got divorced.”
“You…” Dylan tried to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through his chest.
Rowan clicked his tongue. “Look at you. You can barely even speak. What right do you have to fight me? My idiot older brother has been out of the country for years, and even hearing you’re on your deathbed isn’t enough to bring him back to see you.
“Dylan, while you’ve still got some breath left in you, just hand the company over to me. I promise I won’t let the Ashford family fall.”
Rowan made no effort to hide his ambition, his sharp, greedy eyes locked onto Dylan, never leaving him for a second.
Dylan’s eyes blazed with fury and hatred. “Rowan, I’m in this mess because of you. If it wasn’t for that car crash, I’d be perfectly healthy. You want the company? Dream on. The day I die, I’ll donate the whole thing to charity before I let you get your hands on a single penny.”
His voice was sharper than the hatred in his eyes, each word a dagger aimed to wound.
A chill went down Rowan’s spine.

Damn kid. He was as difficult as ever.
He glanced at Eliana with a cryptic smile. “Ms. Lambert, Dylan is once again facing death and bankruptcy. If I know you, you’ll do exactly what you did last time: dump him and run off with another man.”
“What are you talking about?” Eliana snapped, her voice tight with panic. “When did I ever run off with another man?”
Rowan scoffed. “Dylan, you’re a fool. You’ve spent your whole life being played by these two women. You kicked the one woman in this world who was truly good to you to the curb, and now you’re living in the mess these two have made. It’s no wonder you’ve ended up like this. You’ve earned it.”
Beatrice and Eliana tensed up. What else did he know?
Eliana forced a cold smile. “Do you have some kind of relationship with Stella? Is that why you’re defending her and slandering me and Mrs. Ashford?”
Rowan ignored her question. “It’s just a shame,” he said with mock regret, “that we never found the man you left the country with all those years ago.”
Eliana was speechless.
Rowan then turned to Beatrice, a look of genuine confusion on his face. “Beatrice, I have to admit, I don’t get you. Stella was a perfectly dutiful daughter–in–law. She helped your family get back on its feet, yet you constantly found fault with her. I understand that part–you wanted to kick her out to make room for Eliana.
“But then, after the news about Eliana stealing Stella’s designs and you bribing Falcon Barclay went viral, the Ashford Group’s stock plummeted. The company faced an unprecedented crisis. And through all that, you treated Eliana like your own daughter, without a single harsh word. Tsk. It’s just so strange.”
Shaking his head with a smirk, Rowan dropped that bombshell and left the room.
