An officer flashed a warrant at Zack. “Well, well, Zack. We meet again. You never learn, do you? This time, you’re going away for a long, long time.”
Zack never dreamed a cop would recognize him. “Hey… I was just having some fun. I didn’t cause any trouble. The girl sat next to me on her own. She was coming on to me. Why would I drug her? It’s the bar’s booze, not mine.”
Luke gave him a cold look. “Take them all away. Attempted sexual assault. This neighborhood will be a lot safer for the next couple of years.”
Zack and his crew turned pale. They were career criminals; if they went in this time, there was no telling when they’d get
out.
He shot a venomous glare at Yolanda, who just scoffed. “Captain Cross, you might want to check their bank accounts. I suspect they were hired.”
“You bitch, you’ll pay for this,” Zack snarled.
Before he could say more, Gray strode forward and slapped him hard across the face.
The blow sent Zack’s head swimming, his vision blurring at the edges.
What the hell? He hadn’t even been talking to this guy. Why did he keep getting hit?
He was more violent than they were.
A chilling smile touched Gray’s lips as he leaned in and whispered, “Zack, is it? We’ll be sure to pay your family a little visit.”
It was a clear threat.
Zack had an eighty–year–old mother at home. If he’d had any other options, he wouldn’t be doing this kind of work.
“You… you’re threatening me?” he asked, his eyes darting around nervously.
“It’s simple,” Gray said, his sharp gaze a clear warning. “Just tell me who put you up to this.”
Terrified that something would happen to his mother, Zack caved. “It was… it was Gabriel Lambert. He’s the one who sent
us.”
Gray glanced at Luke, who waved his hand.
The men were hauled away, along with the drugged girl, who would be taken in for a statement.
“Yolanda,” Gray said, “I’ll let Ms. Hale know what happened. You hold down the fort. Ms. Hale’s orders are to meet force with force. Make sure anyone who tries to cause trouble here learns a lesson they’ll never forget.”
Yolanda understood. She turned to the patrons with a bright smile. “Everyone, thank you for your patronage at Kismet Bar. I apologize for the disturbance. As a token of our apology, we’ll be giving each of you a voucher for two free visits. Drinks are on the house, and our master mixologist, Julian Sinclair, is at your service.”
The announcement was met with a round of enthusiastic applause.
“Kismet Bar is so generous.”
“And Julian’s cocktails are amazing.”
Fights and sketchy situations weren’t uncommon in bars, so the crowd was unfazed. The lively atmosphere quickly returned.

Meanwhile, sitting in the crowd, Dylan and Miles watched with cold eyes.

Dylan had suspected the Lamberts might try something, which was why he’d come. He wasn’t surprised they’d actually gone through with it.
“Mr. Ashford, we should go,” Miles said.
Dylan stood, his face a grim mask, and left without a word.

At the Ashford mansion, Eliana was a nervous wreck. Had her brother’s men succeeded?
Did they get to Stella?
Suddenly, her phone rang, making her jump.
It was Jasper.
Her heart sank.
