Dylan had been bogged down with work lately and rarely came home, so he couldn’t have Liam stay with him.
Besides, that was the house he had shared with Stella, and for some reason, he didn’t want anyone else there.
Eliana had asked to move in several times, but he’d always refused.
“Liam, Dad’s going to be really busy for the next few days, so I can’t look after you,” Dylan said gently. “You stay here with your mom, and I’ll come see you whenever I have time.”
Liam’s face fell. He’d been hoping his dad would save him, but he wouldn’t.
He blinked, and a silent tear slid down his cheek. He bit his lip to keep from sobbing, the salty, bitter taste of his own tears filling his mouth.
“Dad, are you sure?” he asked, his voice thick with unshed tears. “Not even for one night?”
Seeing the boy’s face, a miniature version of his own, streaked with tears, struck a chord deep in Dylan’s heart. He’d never seen his son so upset, but work really was overwhelming right now.
“Liam, be a good boy. I’ll do my best to come back and see you.”
Liam didn’t want his father’s ‘best effort‘; he wanted to get away from that monster, Eliana.
If his dad wouldn’t save him, then fine.
He carefully turned over, his back to Dylan. “Dad,” he cried softly, “this is the last time I’m ever calling you that. From now on, you’re not my dad anymore.”
Dylan was taken aback for a moment, but he quickly dismissed it as a child’s tantrum.
He ruffled Liam’s hair. “Hey, kiddo, I told you, I’m just really busy. How about I take you out somewhere fun as soon as this project is over?”
Liam didn’t answer. He had to save himself. He couldn’t count on anyone else
His dad didn’t love him that much, anyway. Otherwise, wouldn’t he have noticed something was wrong?
He didn’t dare speak up. Eliana had warned him that if his dad found out she’d hit him, she’d beat him to death.
If he told, his dad would just make them talk it out, and if he couldn’t leave this house, Eliana’s abuse would only get worse.
He’d given up on his father. He would just have to find his real mother on his own. He didn’t need a dad anymore.
It was only much later, when the truth finally came to light, that Dylan would regret his decision. His son had been crying out for help, and he had been completely blind to it.
Dylan stayed for a while, watching the small boy pretend to sleep
Once he thought Liam was asleep, he quietly left the room.
Downstairs, Eliana had prepared a soothing herbal coffee for Dylan. She smiled and walked over to him, her voice soft. “Dylan, this coffee is good for your stomach. Have some.”
Dylan looked at the cup in her hand but didn’t take it. Instead, he looked at her and asked, “Eliana, did you know the Lambert family is in trouble?”

Chapter 119
His mother had been the one to insist Eliana cut ties with her family, which he found curious.
He didn’t voice his suspicions, but he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.
The doubt grew, making him re–evaluate everything that had happened.
Eliana’s gaze flickered away. “I… I didn’t know,” she stammered, shaking her head.
Dylan didn’t press her. “You should get some sleep. I’m going back to the office to work late.”
“Dylan, you need to rest…”
