“Now the family is outside, making a scene. They say their son came to the bar last night and never came home, and they want to come in and look for him,” she added.

Serena straightened up and said, “Go ahead and call the police. I’m on my way.”

She set her phone down and turned to her son, smiling. “Sweetie, do you want to sleep a little longer?”

“It’s nothing, sweetie. Just a little issue at my company. Nothing for you to worry about. I’ll go handle it, and you stay home with Bennett, alright? I’ll be back this afternoon to play with you. But it’s a bit dangerous outside lately, so let’s stay in for now,” Serena said gently.

“I had a big playground set up for you in the backyard, and someone will be there to play with you. You won’t be lonely at all,” she added.
