Serena’s eyes were icy and sharp, her voice laced with mockery. “It’s not your place to decide how this gets handled. If anyone’s going to settle things, it’ll be his family.”
Galvin let out a cold laugh, sizing up the unflinching woman before him. He knew he was up against someone tough. “Well, as it happens, his family put me in charge. So, Ms. Hale, just tell me, how much compensation are you offering?”
Serena narrowed her eyes, her smile barely there. “It’s not my call to decide the compensation. We’ll wait for the investigation results.”
Galvin’s gaze grew even more threatening. “Ms. Hale, it’s best to settle this quietly. Just pay up and we can all walk away happy. If you blow this up, it won’t do your bar any good.”
“The wise know when to yield. Is Stella really going to blow this up?‘ Galvin wondered to himself.
Serena shot back, not giving an inch. “If it’s the bar’s fault, we’ll take responsibility. But if it’s on you, we’ll come after you for it.”
Galvin was left speechless.
‘Where the hell does she get the nerve to say stuff like that?‘ he thought.
Her fierce aura actually made him a little nervous.
“Hmph! Call Yolanda out here. If you can’t handle this, let she deal with it,” Galvin sneered.
Just then, a woman suddenly rushed forward, grabbing Serena by the collar, her voice shaking with fury. “Give me back my son! Give me back my son! My boy died in your bar! How could you be so heartless, letting him die alone in the restroom?”
Marsha reached out to yank Serena’s hair, but just as Serena was about to fight back, someone yanked Marsha away.
Serena looked up and saw Dylan.
His face was drawn, and he looked at Serena with concern. “Stella, are you hurt?”
Serena shot him a cold look. “No. Stay out of my business.”
Genuine love and sincerity were meant to be the gentlest forces in the world. But he’d worn all of hers down.
Dylan knew she didn’t want to see him. But he couldn’t just stand by when she was in danger.
Marsha was crying her heart out, trying to cause trouble for Serena, but Dylan held her back.
“My poor boy, how could you leave me like this? That damned Kismet Bar ruined everything, took my son away and forced a mother to bury her own child. And this woman just stands there like she doesn’t even care. Who does she think she is?” Marsha wailed.
Serena just stared back at her, cold and unmoved.
Chris leaned in and whispered to Serena, “Ms. Hale, these two came straight for you. Clearly someone sent them here on purpose.”
Serena shot Galvin a look. “Investigate him.”
Chris quietly snapped a photo of Galvin and sent it straight to Caleb, telling him to investigate the guy.

Serena fixed her sharp gaze on Marsha, as if she could see right through her. “Mrs. Cooper, the police will make sure justice is served for you and for your son.”
Marsha was momentarily stunned by Serena’s commanding presence, but then she burst out, her voice trembling with rage, “What good is justice now? My son is already dead!”
“So tell me, if you knew your son had a heart condition, why did you let your husband take him out drinking? You all left together after, so where was your family when he collapsed last night?” Serena fired back.
