“No need. I can handle this myself. You should head home. If I need help, I’ll call you,” Serena said, then slipped into her car and drove away.
Dylan walked over to Spencer.
“Spencer,” Dylan called out.
“Dylan, you’re here too,” Spencer said, his charming face breaking into a smile, a hint of mischief in his eyes.
Dylan nodded. “So, how far have things gone between you and Stella?”
As soon as he asked, his chest tightened painfully, like someone had just snatched away the one thing that mattered most to
him.
Spencer’s eyes flickered. He had no idea what had happened at the Ashford family yesterday, but he could see that Dylan cared about Serena, though Dylan himself hadn’t realized it yet.
“Dylan, things between us are only going to get better. Ever since I met her that year, I fell for her at first sight. If she hadn’t suddenly married you, she and I would probably be together by now,” Spencer said.
Serena’s decision to marry Dylan back then had completely blindsided him.
He liked her, but he could only keep his feelings hidden, afraid she’d notice, so he always kept his distance and acted indifferent.
The moment he learned Serena and Dylan had divorced, he couldn’t wait to go find her. When he saw Serena moving those boxes of liquor, he called Dylan on purpose, wanting him to realize that the girl he took for granted was the one Spencer – could only dream of having.
Dylan froze. ‘Suddenly married me? Back then, those words never really meant much to me.‘ But now, a question hit him. ‘Did Stella really marry me just because I saved her life that rainy day?‘
He realized there was so much he’d failed to notice.
Spencer could tell what was bothering Dylan deep down. Having grown up side by side, he probably understood Dylan better than anyone else.
Spencer said, “Dylan, if you really pay attention, you’ll see that everything you’ve ever wanted has always been right beside you. You just never really noticed.”
“It wasn’t your coldness that hurt her. It was her own one–sided love. When she pinned all her hopes on you, you treated her like she didn’t matter at all,” he added.
With that, Spencer turned and walked away.
He knew deep down how far things could really go between him and Serena. Her background was always a mystery, and even after all that drama, she still had that effortless grace and composure. She never needed anyone’s help.
Dylan couldn’t get Spencer’s words out of his head; they echoed in his mind like thunder.
“It wasn’t your coldness that hurt her. It was her own one–sided love. When she pinned all her hopes on you, you treated her like she was nothing.”
‘What was he trying to say?‘ Dylan was left reeling, frozen and lost in thought, unable to pull himself together for what felt

The news about someone dying after drinking at Kismet Bar is blowing up all over social media.
[Kismet Bar just opened two nights ago. How did something like this happen already? Honestly, the new bartender really knows how to mix a drink.]
[No way I’m ever going back there. If the drinks were safe, how could someone end up dead?]
