Yolanda said apologetically, “Julian, looks like you’re getting dragged into trouble with me. Someone’s tailing us.”
Julian understood why she was so cautious now.
The whole bar thing was obviously a trap. He’d gone to the restroom during the cleanup last night, and there was nobody there.
He smiled, seeing how calm and unfazed she was. “Yolanda, if you’re not scared, why should I be?”
Yolanda smiled, her eyes clear and bright.
“I’m just worried you might get hurt,” she said.
Getting hurt was a pain, and with those guys still–chasing them, she just had to minimize the risk.
Ms. Hale had told her to drop a hint that she had evidence, knowing the enemy would try to intercept them. And sure enough, they fell for it.
‘Who’s bold enough to try something like this? Going up against Cloudmere Group? How crazy do you have to be?‘ Yolanda thought.
Yolanda kept checking the rearview mirror, always on alert. Luckily, the road was clear all the way.
Just as they were about to turn left, there was a loud crash.
Their car was suddenly rammed from the side, sending it careening across the road with a deafening bang.
Yolanda had been on high alert, so when the impact hit, she stayed calm, gripping the steering wheel tightly. The car slammed into a tree on the other side.
There weren’t many people around, so aside from them, no one else got hurt.
The moment the car was hit, Julian threw himself over Yolanda, shielding her as fast as he could.
“Yolanda, are you okay?” Julian asked, his voice tight with worry.
Yolanda was still dazed, slowly lifting her eyes to see their car crashed into the tree. The hood was dented, but thankfully, it wasn’t too bad.
She shook her head, her ears still ringing and her whole body aching. The lingering effects of the crash left her dizzy and lightheaded.
Julian, I… I’m fine. What about you?” Yolanda asked, her voice a little shaky.
Julian had a nasty scrape on his arm, but nothing was broken. He could still move it.
Julian murmured, “I’m alright too.”
Yolanda exhaled deeply, trying to steady herself.
Just as she was starting to recover, two men came over, yanked the car door open, and glared at her, looking like trouble,
Yolanda narrowed her eyes, still bright and clear despite the pain, blood streaming down from the gash on her forehead. If anything, the crimson only made her beauty stand out even more.

“What do you want?” she snapped.

One of the two men was caught off guard. ‘Even after a crash like that, she’s still got the nerve to bark at us?‘ they thought.
He leaned in, his voice low and menacing. “Hand over the thumb drive, or you’re not leaving this car alive. See this tiny bomb in my hand? One tug and you’re both toast.”
Yolanda played dumb. “Thumb drive? What thumb drive? I have no idea what you’re talking about. You crash our car and now you’re threatening us?”
The man glanced around nervously. Everyone nearby just thought they were here to help, and no one else was coming over. He snarled, “Cut the crap, you chick. Hand over the thumb drive now.”
Yolanda scoffed, her voice icy. “So you were the ones behind the bar incident last night. I already moved the thumb drive. It’s probably sitting at the police station now. If you want to steal it, go rob the cops.”
“What?” The guy stared at her, totally stunned. He’d been tailing them the whole time. He couldn’t figure out how the thumb drive could have been moved.
“No way. It’s still on you. Hand it over now. Stop messing around with me, or I’ll bash your head in,” the man growled, his patience shot and his anger boiling over.
Yolanda saw the guy’s patience snap, danger written all over his face. ‘Where are the cops?‘ she thought, her heart pounding in her chest.
This was all part of the plan. They’d figured out the timing and location almost to the minute.
The guy’s hands started roaming over Yolanda, roughly searching her for the thumb drive.
Yolanda’s head was still reeling, but she did her best to keep her cool.
Julian’s eyes flashed with fury. He slammed his fist into the guy’s arm and snarled, “Touch her again and I’ll snap your arm right here.”
