Serena turned around and saw Vivian, dressed in casual clothes, coming over at a run with some toys in her hands.
“Vivian, slow down,” Serena said with a smile.
“Hey, I’m here to see Liam. Of course, I’m totally fired up and can’t slow down. I spent all day yesterday picking out gifts, and I couldn’t wait to come over this morning to hang out with you and Liam,” Vivian said excitedly.
Vivian glanced around, but didn’t see Liam anywhere.
“Serena. Where’s Liam?” she called out.
Serena smiled and pointed to where Liam was playing in the ball pit not far away. “He’s over there. He wanted to play with the ball pit, so I brought him here.”
“Come on, let’s go see Liam,” Vivian said, her grin as bright as the morning sun as she carried the gifts over.
Watching Vivian so happy made Serena smile, too. This was the kind of moment she’d dreamed about countless times.
“Liam, I’m here.” Vivian cheered, putting the robot and RC car aside.
Liam slid down the slide and walked over to her. “Vivian, you look so beautiful.”
“Oh wow, kiddo, you really know how to flatter me,” Vivian laughed, clearly delighted by his words.
She scooped him out of the ball pit and planted a kiss on his cheek.
Vivian pointed at the gifts. “Liam, these are all from me. If you ever want a new toy just tell me, okay? I have never been short on cash.”
Liam grinned from ear to ear, his big eyes shining like stars, “Thank you, Vivian. I love you so much.”
Liam had never had this many toys in his life.
“Oh my goodness, what a little angel. I’m just so happy,” Vivian gushed.
“Alright, from now on, I’ll buy you more and more gifts,” she said.
Vivian set Liam down.
With a big smile, Liam went back to the ball pit to play.
Only then did Vivian turn to Serena with a serious look. “Serena, if I hadn’t asked, would you have ever told me that you and Dylan have been together all these years?”
Serena smiled and said, “Back then, he saved my life, so I married him out of gratitude. He never really loved me, and now that we’re divorced. Isn’t that just how things are sometimes?”
Serena kept her explanation brief, not wanting Vivian to worry.
Vivian was fuming. “I was overseas all those years, thinking you were living the good life, but you weren’t at all.
“You always put on a brave face and never let me in on the tough times. When are you ever going to stop doing that? That’s what friends are for, you know? You got to let it out sometimes.
‘Did you ever really think of me as your friend? All these years, and you never told me the truth?”

Seeing Vivian so upset, Serena gave her an apologetic smile. “Vivian, I’m really sorry. Back then, I got played, and right after Liam was born, he was taken from me.
“I thought I’d lost my child forever. I’ve been really down these past couple of years.”
Vivian hugged her tight, her pretty brows knitted together, and her lips formed a cute pout, full of sympathy.
“You’re such a dummy. How could you just let people walk all over you like that? Dylan’s not even close to being good enough for you, let alone for who you really are,” she said.
