Serena could only think of Eliana’s illness now, and it made her sick to her stomach. A wave of disgust washed over her whole body.
Serena shoved Dylan away abruptly, her cool eyes fixed on him with a warning. “Stay away from me. You’re filthy.”
Even with his usual self–control, Dylan couldn’t hold back his anger this time. His devilishly handsome face darkened with rage, bringing an intimidating pressure that made people tremble. “Stella,” he said, voice tight, “You think I’m filthy?”
Serena darted back a step to put more distance between herself and Dylan, meeting his icy stare. It was clear that Dylan trusted Eliana, always had. He just took her word for it, never bothering to dig deeper.
Turning on her heel, Serena tried to leave, but Dylan moved swiftly, his hand shooting out to seize her wrist. Serena froze for a second, then immediately tried to shake him off. But his grip was so firm that she couldn’t break free.
Serena glared at Dylan, her words cutting like ice. “Dylan, get your hands off me. I won’t let what you and Eliana did to me slide.”
“Stella, I told you, it was all Pierre’s misunderstanding. About the compensation, I want you to talk to me directly.” Dylan was pushed over the edge. Normally composed, he now acted on impulse, pulling Serena tightly into his arms and lowering his head to kiss her.
The moment their lips met, the softness of Serena’s struck Dylan deeply. For the first time in a month, his hollow heart seemed to find a place to belong.
But just as Dylan lost himself in the moment, Serena shoved him away hard, dropping to her knees as she retched.
Stunned, Dylan stared at her look of pure disgust, and something inside him snapped. “Stella, how dare you-”
Serena shouted, “Get the hell away from me, Dylan. You’re disgusting. How can you even touch me after everything? I can’t stand it. You and Eliana are a rotten pair. We’re divorced. Why won’t you just leave me alone?”
Furious, Serena kept scrubbing at her mouth, over and over, until her lips were raw and tinged with red. Still, she wouldn’t
stop.
Dylan had been raised in privilege, his pride towering. Never in his life had he been rejected so harshly. Staring at Serena’s bloodied lips and her expression of utter revulsion, his eyes turned icy cold.
Then, suddenly, Dylan remembered the scene in the lounge a month ago, when Serena had claimed that Eliana was sick. To him, Eliana was pure and innocent. He couldn’t stand anyone tarnishing her name.
“Stella, I never thought you’d stoop this low,” Dylan said, his voice low and hardened, “Just because I divorced you, you’re jealous of Eliana? So jealous that you’d spread rumors about her having some disease? Was that really necessary to ruin her reputation like this?”
A bitter laugh rose inside Serena. She had known that Dylan only ever believed Eliana, never her.
Serena stood up, her lips curling in a cold smirk. “Dylan, what if I told you that three years ago, Eliana left you because you went bankrupt, and she left with another man. Would you believe me?”
“You know I don’t trust a word you say. Why even ask?” Dylan replied, his tone dismissive. “Eliana left because she was unwell. She went abroad for treatment. That’s the only reason you had the chance to marry me. If anything, you should be grateful to her.”
Dylan’s words were firm and defensive, refusing to let anyone tarnish Eliana’s image.
