From Divorced Wife To The Top Heiress novel Chapter 17

Serena’s entire body trembled violently, her pupils contracting sharply as she spun around to face Dylan. She couldn’t believe how he dared ask that question.

Without another word, Serena raised her hand and slapped Dylan hard across the face.

The force of the blow snapped Dylan’s head to the side, his ears ringing momentarily. He slowly pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek, and the faint, metallic taste of blood spread in his mouth.

With trembling fingers, Serena angrily unbuttoned her shirt, revealing a long, jagged scar. Dylan,” she demanded, her voice shaking with rage, who do you think I gave my liver to?

Dylan stared blankly at the scar, his mind reeling. He didn’t understand why the scar looked identical to the one on his own body.

Serena looked at Dylan with eyes full of pain, each word heavy with sorrow. Look closely, Dylan. This is the scar left from donating my liver. It’s 12 inches long. I gave sixty percent of my liver. It did serious damage to my body and left me with lasting problems. When the weather turns cold, the scar aches terribly.

The surgery cut through muscle and severed nerves. It takes two to three years for severed nerves to heal properly. I risked my life to carry your child, but you didn’t want it.

I fought so hard to recover my health, and just when I started getting better, I was in that car accident. The violent impact caused more damage to my liver. I was bedridden for a month. Now, I can barely manage to work.

Dylan, how could you ask such a heartless question? Do you have any idea how difficult my life is now? I can’t make sudden, strenuous movements. I can’t eat fried food, or anything too salty. I can’t drink sugary beverages, and I must avoid exhausting work. And all of this is because of whom? How can you so casually ask me who I donated my liver to?

Serena threw her head back and laughed with a raw, broken sound. She was laughing at herself, at the cruel irony of giving her liver to Dylan, while he remained completely unaware.

Dylan watched her, his heart feeling as if it had been pierced by a sharp blade. For a split second, something flickered at the edge of his memory, too fast to grasp.

When her laughter finally faded, Serena wiped the tears that had spilled from the corners of her eyes. Her grief was so deep it seemed to tear her apart from within.

Dylan wanted to go to Serena, to hold her, but the memory of the disgust in her eyes earlier stopped him cold. He stood frozen, rooted to the spot. He still couldn’t believe that in three years of marriage, he had never once noticed that Serena carried the same scar as he did.

Serena tried to steady herself, but tears streamed down her face silently. Her lips quivered, and even her breathing came in shaky tremors.

With a fragile smile, she said, Dylan, do you know what I regret most now? I regret ever meeting you. I regret letting myself become this. If I hadn’t met you, I would live better.”

Serena took a deep, unsteady breath, forcing down the rising ache in her chest. But Dylan, I chose all of it. Every single thing I did, I did willingly. Since it was my choice, it has nothing to do with you. I was just foolish, doing things you never asked for.

That was just the way of the world when it came to matters of the heart. One might willingly give everything for another

person.
