Meeting Eliana’s clear, expectant gaze, Dylan was suddenly haunted by the image of Serena’s eyes which were filled with utter despair. His heart clenched sharply.
Dylan slowly looked away, replying evasively, “Once I finish handling this busy period, I’ll make arrangements.”
Eliana stood up excitedly and gently linked her arm with his. With Dylan’s verbal promise, marrying him was now within reach. “Dylan, I always knew I was the one you truly loved. My parents have been wanting to see you, too.”
Dylan had never been fond of the Lambert family. They were always so calculating and materialistic. Still, he replied, “After things settle down, I’ll go with you to visit them.”
After the doctor gave Liam some medicine and prescribed fever reducers, they left. At the hospital entrance, Liam suddenly caught sight of Serena. He lifted his head from Dylan’s arms and cried out, “Mommy.”
This hospital was under Spencer’s name. Serena, who had been brought here by Spencer, had regained consciousness not long ago.
Spencer was just about to take Serena home when the familiar sound of a child’s cry reached her.
Serena turned sharply toward the voice and saw the child in Dylan’s arms calling her “Mommy” again, just like last time at the hospital. The sound of his crying hit her like a physical blow, heart–wrenching and sharp. She had no idea why this child reacted to her this way.
“Mommy, Mommy…” Liam cried as if his heart were breaking, his little arms stretching desperately toward Serena.
Serena stood frozen in place, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably.
Eliana was seething inside, her mind racing with fury. “That wretched little bastard. Why does he lose his mind every time he sees Stella?‘ she cursed.
Beatrice was also alarmed. Fearing Serena might suspect something, she struck first, her voice sharp and accusing. “Stella, you home–wrecker! It wasn’t enough to seduce my son, and now you won’t even leave a child alone? Our family must have been cursed to ever cross paths with a woman like you.”
Serena snapped back to reality, staring at Beatrice who was shrieking like a furious shrew. In the Ashford family, apart from Jacob and Sophia, no one had ever seen everything Serena had done for them over the years.
Serena used to think such vicious relatives only existed in TV dramas. Never had she imagined she would meet them in real life.
“Mrs. Ashford,” Serena said, her voice chillingly calm, “Was your family really cursed to have met a woman like me? Well then, I’ll take

rice froze. It was true that back when the Ashford family faced bankruptcy and crisis, it was Serena who suddenly appeared and turned things around, allowing Beatrice to continue enjoying this life of extreme luxury,
But Beatrice would never let Serena remain in their lives. The Ashford family was now stronger than ever, and Serena had outlived her usefulness.
