Dylan’s smile vanished instantly. He lowered his head and said, Stella, I’m sorry. I won’t laugh like that again, I promise.”
He instantly became docile.
Serena smiled helplessly. His attitude really caught her off guard. “Forget it. Whatever. After all those years of love, hate, passion, and regret, in the end, it was all just a dream for all of us We’re even now.”
A gentle smile curled the corners of Serena’s mouth.
“No, I owe you,” Dylan said. “I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you. I’ll always be here for you and our son. I’ve seen your greatest love, and now I want you to see mine. It’s always you.”
Serena was stunned, feeling something tug at his heartstrings.
The world was huge, yet somehow she crossed paths with him. Out of everyone, she ended up falling for him, but he didn’t feel the same way.
But even one gentle look from him could send a rush of sweetness through her heart.
And just one cold glance from him could make all the hidden love inside her ache with bitterness.
Serena said calmly, “Dylan, I’ve lived my youth with no regrets. I’ve loved, experienced something truly breathtaking, and I have my son. Honestly, everything’s been pretty good.”
Dylan gave a bitter smile. Everything was good for her. Except he wouldn’t be part of her life anymore.
His heart felt stabbed with pain as he saw the indifference in her eyes.
But that look of concern she’d given him earlier still made hope flare up inside him.
He wondered if she had ever felt the same way he did now. That must’ve hurt like hell.
Once the dishes were served, the two of them quietly ate their dinner.
Serena didn’t want to keep clinging to the past.
She’d already been through enough pain back then. Why should she torture herself over it all over again?
After dinner, Dylan set down his fork and looked at Serena. “Stella, why didn’t you order shrimp?”
Serena glanced at him. “Did you want some? I can get you a plate”
Dylan shook his head. “No, I just wanted to peel them for you.”
Serena blinked, staring at his handsome face. “Dylan, what’s wrong with you?”
Dylan remembered a passage from her diary.
[If I could be with my crush, would he peel shrimp for me at dinner, just like other guys do? Wow, that’d be so happy!]
He wanted to make that wish come true for her. Next up: watch movies, share popcorn, and hit up a Cheese Fondue. She had so many dreams. All the things she wanted to do when Dylan was nineteen.
Dylan shook his head with a faint smile. “No, Stella. I didn’t really understand love before. I guess I was pretty selfish. But now, I’ve learned how to love someone else.

Love is about both sides giving their all. When you put your heart in, you get the same kind of love back,” he said, his voice gentle and warm.
“Stella, I promise I’ll work hard to learn how to love you,” he said softly.
Serena couldn’t help but reach out and touch his head.
