Eliana said, “Mariana, I’m sorry, but I can’t leave right now. Cassie still needs me. I’ll stay here, but I promise I won’t get in the way of your life or Cassie’s.

With that, Eliana got up and went to the kitchen to find something to eat.

Mariana wiped away her tears, her head bowed, wondering how her son could ever have loved someone so monstrous.

The day after Christmas, Serena invited Ethan over and cooked him a homemade dinner. The two chatted for hours, as close as siblings.
