Dylan looked at Miles, genuinely surprised. ‘Do I act like that? We agreed to a marriage of convenience. After the divorce, we can still be friends,‘ he wondered.
Dylan tried to explain, “Miles, after a divorce, you can still be friends.”
Miles cut him off with a smile, “Mr. Ashford, what do you think? How can divorced people really be friends? You loved each other once, hurt each other too. Friends? You seriously believe that?
“That kind of on–again, off–again relationship is just flirting with ambiguity. You either cut ties completely or never see Mrs. Hale again.”
He added, “Didn’t you notice how much Mrs. Hale dislikes you? She even puts a tissue down just to check on you. Don’t you have any self–awareness?
“And you had a child together. When she gave birth, not a single person from your family was there for her. Sure, it was a contract marriage, but the Ashford family was truly heartless to her.”
Dylan was shocked. Miles usually didn’t say much, but today’s words left Dylan stunned.
‘No self–awareness? Heartless and unkind? When you put it that way, I do sound heartless. We had a contract marriage, but I still slept with her. I broke the rules first, yet Stella’s the one who got hurt,’ Dylan thought.
“Miles, you don’t understand,” Dylan said.
“I don’t, Mr. Ashford. Since you don’t like Mrs. Hale, then say a proper goodbye to her. Let go, wish each other well, and leave with dignity. Life isn’t a movie. Mrs. Hale is happier without you.” Miles said firmly.
Miles felt relieved inside, thinking, ‘I’ve held this in for too long. While Mr. Ashford clung to his ex, Mrs. Hale was giving him her whole heart.
‘Beatrice pretended one way to his face, and another behind his back. I just can’t stand the way
behaves.’
Dylan’s handsome face darkened. ‘In Miles’s eyes, am I just a scumbag too?‘ he wondered.
that family
Expressionless, he walked away. ‘Stella is happier without me? Hmph, she must be happy with the man she loves. But right now, I don’t feel happy,‘ he thought.
Miles sighed heavily and muttered loudly to himself, “Mrs. Hale is truly a good girl. I hope she becomes the person she wants to be, meets someone who doesn’t need her to please them, and loves her properly.
“I hope she never has to wear armor to face anyone and can just live happily.”
Dylan paused mid–step, hearing Miles’s words. Suddenly, the stomach pain he barely felt before twisted sharply.
Clutching his chest, he felt terrible, uncertain if the pain was in his stomach or his heart, as his breathing grew heavy.

Staring at the trees lining the street, his gaze darkened, Winter was approaching, and leaves drifted down the entire block.
His heart felt like those falling leaves, adrift, unable to settle.
Since Stella left, Dylan had been restless.
His phone kept ringing. Annoyed, Dylan answered, “Hello?”
“Dylan, haven’t you and Ms. Lane reached an agreement? Kismet Bar officially announced a partnership with the Grant family. Eliana’s voice trembled with unease.
Dylan knew this was irreversible. He said, “Eliana, don’t be upset. I’ll handle this. They’ve already signed with the Grant family. Nothing can change that now.
“I’ll cut off all my bar’s suppliers and replace them with products from the Lambert family. The Lambert family won’t go bankrupt.”
He went to this length for Eliana.
Eliana laughed happily, “Dylan, I knew you cared for me. Stella’s really awful, sabotaging things to try to bankrupt the Lambert family. Even though we wronged her, she didn’t have to retaliate like this.”
Eliana took the opportunity to bring up Stella to irritate Dylan.
Standing on the sidewalk, Dylan heard Eliana’s words. A sly smile curled at the corner of his lips. Handsome and devilish, his gaze was deep and cold.
He said, “Eliana, this has nothing to do with Stella. The Kismet Bar executives made the decision. She’s just an assistant; she doesn’t have that much power.”
Eliana lost her composure slightly and asked, “Dylan, you don’t believe me? Do you believe her?”
