Her eyes welled up with fresh tears as she crafted her explanation. Dylan, it all happened so fast. In the moment, I truly thought she had pushed me.

Thank goodness the truth came out, or I would have made you misunderstand her even more.

After all, we’re the ones who betrayed her. The next time I see her, I’ll apologize properly.

Dylan’s frown deepened, his inner turmoil growing stronger than before.

He knew Stella’s character well enoughshe wasn’t one to pick fights without cause.

The baby in her arms continued to wail. Eliana suppressed her impatience and began soothing Liam with practiced

motions.

Seeing Dylan’s expression, she knew his indulgence had its limits, but this incident was now closed.

She sneered inwardly, Stella could never win against me. Dylan loves me unconditionally. What should I be afraid of?

Seeing the distressed child, Dylan didn’t press the matter further.

Thinking of Stella, he acknowledged his words had been too harsh. I’ll apologize next time I see her.’

Back in the car, Serena leaned against the window, closing her eyes.

The man she had loved for so many years could wound her to the core with a single sentence.

She had thought leaving would help her forget, but every encounter still left her heart aching.

Setting Dylan aside, her mind was a whirlwind, dominated by the memory of Liam’s yearning gaze.

Children were a pain she had avoided touching for two years. Yet, Eliana’s child stirred something profoundly different

within her.

Serena kept her eyes shut until Chris’s voice broke the silence. Ms. Hale, are you alright?

Not hearing a response, Chris glanced over. She was resting against the window, her hair partly obscuring her fair, delicate face. Her long lashes trembled slightly. She was still breathtakingly beautiful.

Serena took a deep, steadying breath. Her voice was calm. I’m fine. Let’s go back.

Understood.” Chris started the drive back to Cloudmere Estate.

The more Serena thought about it, the more something felt off.

She was divorced from Dylan. Why was Eliana still targeting her? That puzzled her greatly.

She knew Eliana’s type. Eliana was the kind who had run off with another man when Dylan was bankrupt and crippled, though Dylan refused to believe it.

She looked at Chris, a strange, determined smile touching her lips. Chris, find someone completely trustworthy. Investigate Eliana. Find out exactly when that child was born and what happened the year she returned.

I overheard her wanting me dead. Look into everywhere she’s lived these past years. I want to know it all. Every detail, large

and small.

Also, I found out back then that she left with another man. Find out who he is.”

Chris understood the gravity. He immediately began contacting reliable sources.

Entering the grand hall of the estate, Serena was greeted by the head butler, Felix Reed, his face warm with affection. Ms. Hale you’re back. Have you eaten? The kitchen has prepared all your favorite dishes.

Serena smiled. Where’s Grandpa?

Felix chuckled. The moment Mr. Hale knew you were back, he packed his bags first thing this morning and left on a business trip. He’s off to visit his old friends abroad for chess matches. He tossed the company to you and made his escape.
