Serena frowned, her mind racing to understand Eliana’s intent, when Dylan’s furious voice cut through the lobby. “Stella! What are you doing? Why must you bully Eliana again?”
Serena’s head snapped toward the man striding out of the elevator, his aura menacing.
From Dylan’s angle, it had unmistakably looked like Stella had pushed Eliana.
At the hospital, he had misunderstood her. This time, he had seen it with his own eyes.
He helped Eliana up, pulling her into his embrace, his hands checking her over with concern. “Eliana, are you hurt?”
Tears welled in Eliana’s eyes as she shook her head. “Dylan, I’m fine. Stella didn’t mean it. She saw me bringing you lunch… she just left you, so her heart must be hurting. That’s why she pushed me. It’s okay.”
Serena let out a short, incredulous laugh. Eliana truly had no shame, resorting to the same cheap trick repeatedly.
And Dylan kept falling for it. He couldn’t even see through such an obvious ploy. Serena couldn’t believe she had wasted four years of her youth on this fool.
“Dylan,” she said, her voice steady. “I didn’t push her. Do you believe me?”
Her gaze was heavy as it settled on him.
Dylan’s response was cold and merciless. “Stella, I saw it with my own eyes. How long will you keep lying? Eliana isn’t strong because I…”
“Dylan, stop!” Eliana interrupted loudly, a note of panic in her voice. “I helped you willingly back then. Please, don’t say any
more.”
She was only thinking about one thing: that matter could absolutely not come to light in front of Stella.
Serena’s brow furrowed. ‘Eliana saved Dylan? When? How come I know nothing of that?‘
All she knew was that when the Ashford family was bankrupt, it was she who had written letters to comfort Dylan, pulling him back from the brink of despair.
It was she who had donated part of her liver to save his life, dragging him back from death’s door. It was she who had treated his legs, enabling him to walk again today.
In all these years, she had never used her sacrifices to demand anything from him.
Her pregnancy was the result of his drunken mistake, and he had never truly seen all she had done for him.
Serena found it ironic. “This must be the difference between being loved and not being loved.‘
A sharp, unexpected pain lanced through her heart. Tears shimmered at the corners of her eyes. Each wound Dylan inflicted was another nail in the coffin of her feelings.
Serena looked at Eliana with naked scorn. “Eliana, I hope you can keep up this act for a lifetime. I hope the people around you never discover your true face.”
With that, she turned toward the elevator bank.
“Stop there.” Dylan’s icy command stopped her.

Serena turned back, her beautiful eyes clear and freezing.
Something in that gaze pricked at Dylan uncomfortably. This version of Stella was utterly alien to him.
“Stella,” he ordered. “Apologize to Eliana.”
Serena suddenly laughed, the sound full of disbelief. “Apologize? For what?”

“For pushing Eliana.” Dylan’s frown deepened. ‘Why is she being so obstinate? What happened to the gentle, kind woman I knew? Why did she become so vicious?‘
Serena’s eyes flicked to Eliana. “Eliana, are you absolutely certain I pushed you?”
