Every time she saw that gentle smile, she yearned for it to be for her.

But it never was. He only ever loved Eliana.

When he was at his lowest, she had written him letters, pouring her heart out to pull him back from the brink of despair.

When his car crash nearly killed him, she’d abandoned her own career to give him part of her liver.

When his legs were paralyzed, she had arranged for physical therapy and cooked a special regimen of restorative meals that got him back on his feet in just six months.

She had helped him rebuild the Ashford family’s fortune, turning them into one of Kingsbridge’s new powerhouses in three short years.

And this was her reward? Betrayal.

A cold hatred settled in Serena’s eyes.

She was going to get her son back.

After composing herself, Serena called Chris Maddox.

“Ms. Hale, did you see it?” Chris’s voice was shaking with rage on the other end. “Should I just send the report to that idiot Dylan?”

Serena wiped away a fresh wave of tears, taking a deep breath. “Chris, if you just send it to him, he won’t believe it. He’ll just think I’m trying to slander Eliana. You need to find a way to make Dylan discover this on

his own.

“And there’s something more important,” she continued, her voice firm. “Eliana couldn’t have pulled this off alone. She had accomplices. The nanny and doctor I had Lyra looking into–we need to find them as soon as possible. We can take our time, but we absolutely cannot tip our hand.

“Also… Eliana gave birth to a daughter, but she came back with a son. Chris, I suspect he’s my son. But you can’t tell anyone. I’ll investigate this myself.”

She couldn’t trust anyone else with something this important.
