A cold glint shone in Beatrice’s eyes as she studied Eliana’s poised and proper demeanor.

Jasper had raised her with a small–minded, provincial air, but Beatrice had spent years secretly molding her, sculpting her into the image of a high–society heiress.
“I’ve been paving the way for you for years,” Beatrice said, her voice low and firm. “I made sure you met Dylan at the perfect moment.
“The reason is simple: I like you. I wanted you for a daughter–in–law, so I helped you behind the scenes. You’re simple–minded; you didn’t even get into college. But Stella is brilliant. The only way for you to look worthy of Dylan in the eyes of the world was to take some of what was hers and make it your own.
Beatrice continued, “I don’t know what Stella’s background really is–to pull in that much investment, she can’t be a nobody.
“But my investigation turned up the same story she tells: she’s an orphan with an incredible talent for business.”
If it weren’t for certain circumstances, Beatrice would have been more than satisfied with a daughter–in–law like Stella.
But she had her reasons.
The memory of what happened back then made her face darken with a murderous rage.
Eliana took her hand, her voice filled with gratitude. “Beatrice, thank you. I promise I’ll be the best daughter- in–law to you.”
Beatrice’s expression softened slightly at Eliana’s obedience.
“Come on. I’ll go with you to the Lambert residence.”
Eliana thought about her father’s plan to get rid of Stella. It was better to cut ties now; then whatever happened would have nothing to do with her.
If Jasper managed to kill Stella and get away with it, fine. If he got caught, it wouldn’t be her problem.
With the disownment papers in hand, the two women, flanked by eight bodyguards, arrived at the Lambert residence.
Jasper’s house was modest, with dated, middle–class decor.
Having grown accustomed to the sprawling Ashford mansion, Eliana felt a wave of distaste returning to this place.
When Jasper opened the door, his face lit up in surprise. “Beatrice! What a surprise. Please, come in, come in.”
Beatrice, ever elegant and stylish, merely gave a curt nod. “Let’s talk inside.”

Seeing her cold expression, Jasper knew she was here about the money Dylan had spent on the Lambert Group. A flicker of unease crossed his mind, but he quickly suppressed it.
‘She wouldn’t be too cruel,’ he thought. ‘After all, my daughter gave them a grandson.’
He glanced at Eliana, who guiltily lowered her head.
Only Jasper was home.
Beatrice didn’t bother with pleasantries. “Jasper, I’m here with a simple proposition,” she said, getting straight to the point. “Either you repay the Ashford family every penny we’ve spent, or you accept the money as a severance package, and you sever all ties with Eliana. If you sign the papers, the debt is cleared.”
Jasper stared at Beatrice’s elegant face, stunned.
He let out a bitter, almost mocking laugh. ‘Seriously, how bossy can she get?‘ Jasper thought.
