Chapter 66 Time to Let Go
“I’m listening,” Austin said, looking at Alicia.
Alicia’s lips curved into a sly smile. “No matter how desperately the Gibson family pleads, don’t invest a single penny in Gibson Corporation. Not a cent.”
Austin switched off the engine and stepped out of the car.
Alicia surveyed the elegantly serene surroundings.
Austin picked up the conversation from before. “Now that the Burton family and the Gibson family are connected by marriage, it would look bad if we didn’t help. But if I help you, what do I get in return?”
Although he had offered his assistance, he still expected something in exchange.
Alicia met his gaze evenly. “What do you want?”
Austin tapped her chest slowly with a finger. “I want…”
His eyes flicked to a car pulling up nearby. “I want you to kiss me.”
“Right now?”
“Yes.”
Alicia hesitated for a moment, confused, but she didn’t refuse. She hooked his tie, drew his face down, and pressed a brief, teasing kiss to his cheek.
Suddenly, tires screeched, and David’s voice cut through the air. “What are you two doing?”
David leaped out of the car and rushed toward Alicia.
She had never kissed him first, let alone in public, and the sight seemed to ignite a fierce jealousy in his eyes. His expression burned with anger and possessiveness, as if he had just caught his wife betraying him.
“Alicia, what the hell are you doing?”
Alicia looped her arms around Austin’s neck and pressed a bold lingering kiss to his lips.
She might have been shy in ordinary circumstances, but if it meant getting back at David, she was all in.
She shot David a defiant glance, “Do you see it clearly now? If not, I can show you a few more times.”
David’s face darkened with fury. “Alicia, I love you! How could you do this?”
He reached for her, but Austin stepped in, firm and unyielding. “David, enough. Don’t forget who you are.”
David had always respected Austin, but now, stung by jealousy, he acted impulsively, “Uncle Austin, she’s only doing this to make me jealous because she still cares about me. You’re just a tool she’s using-what’s there to be proud of?”
At that moment, Austin realized the boy had grown up.
David stared at Alicia, who remained shielded behind Austin, his eyes blazing with determination.
