Chapter 68 Her Plans Fall into Place

“That’s completely different,” Alicia said.

She had resolved not to lay her heart bare again. No expectations, no disappointments.

Alicia hung up the phone and closed her eyes, letting the warmth of the bath seep into her. Aria, I’ll be waiting for you in hell.

Late that night, when the city had quieted, a shocking news story erupted online.

The next morning, Alicia woke early. The space beside her bed was already vacant.

Austin had stayed up late again, and now he was awake before dawn. Does he even need sleep?

As she contemplated the drama poised to unfold with the Burton family, she moved to the closet and selected a sky-blue gown-fresh, refined, and elegant.

He emerged and found her seated at the vanity, her hair elegantly pinned up, her posture graceful and enticing.

“Morning,” he said.

The gloom that had shadowed Alicia’s expression vanished. She smiled brightly and headed toward the bathroom.

When she reemerged, she noticed he had chosen a tie that matched the shade of her dress. She thought, This has to be a coincidence.

“Something’s happening at the Burton Residence. We need to return for a while,” he said.

Alicia nodded immediately. “Of course!”

She had woken early specifically to witness the unfolding spectacle, after all.

Upon arriving at the Burton Residence, Steven’s furious voice thundered from inside. “Didn’t we buy all the photos? How did any slip through?”

David frowned. “We intercepted them as soon as we found out, but Southvale Media still ran the story.”

“Now everyone knows you slept with Aria. If you don’t marry her, how am I supposed to save our reputation?” ”

David’s expression shifted instantly at the mention of niarrying Aria. “Grandpa, Dad, you both know what happened last time. Aria set me up. Now these photos are out-she probably orchestrated it! I’m not marrying a schemer like her!”

“Even if it was a setup, you still walked right into it. You have no one to blame but yourself. I just spoke with the Gibson family-they’ve agreed to the marriage.”

Miguel stubbed out his cigarette and spoke sharply, “Enough. It’s settled. Whether you like it or not is irrelevant. Marry her first, and after a year or so, you can get a divorce. By then, the project will be complete.”

He spoke just as Alicia entered, and his gaze flickered toward her, slightly awkward.

Of course, while the Gibson family schemed against the Burtons, the Burtons had already extracted their own advantages from the Gibsons.
