Chapter 67 This Is Where It Ends

Alicia poured herself a glass of wine. “If you want a proper farewell, let this dinner be our parting. I don’t want any awkwardness lingering between us when we meet again in the future.”

“To what we had. Cheers.”

David’s hand trembled as he took his glass. His eyes glimmered with pain, knuckles white from gripping the stem too tightly. “Alicia…”

He couldn’t bring himself to say goodbye.

Alicia raised her glass and lightly tapped it against his.

Clink!

The sound rang sharp and clear in the quiet room. She murmured, “David, this is where it ends.”

She tilted her head back and emptied the glass in a single motion.

Placing the empty cup down, she smiled at Reggie. “Reggie, we’re leaving. You better attend my wedding, alright?”

“Oh… sure, Alicia,” he muttered.

Linking her arm with Austin’s, she walked away without looking back.

Reggie tugged at David’s arm. “They’re gone.”

But David remained rooted, stubborn as ever. A solitary tear traced his cheek, falling into the wine and sending ripples across the dark surface.

“David, why torture yourself like this? You were the one who said you wouldn’t take it seriously, so why is it you’re hurting the most?”

“I… I misjudged everything,” he admitted, his voice tight. “I thought I had control, but I ignored what I truly felt for Alicia.”

He stared into the deep red liquid, a bitter smile tugging at his lips. “I never said it was over. So it isn’t.”

“Don’t do anything reckless! You know how your uncle is. If you cross him, he won’t care who you are.”

“As long as Alicia comes back to me, who cares? He can’t touch me. We have been together for three years. He doesn’t stand a chance.”

Reggie sighed, watching his friend’s obstinacy. “If I had known it would come to this, why did you act the way you did back then?”

Back at home, Austin opened the passenger door, snapping Alicia out of her daze.

He loomed over her, his shadow swallowing her small frame. His gaze was cold. “Are you really bringing feelings for another man into our home?”

“Sorry, I-”

Before she could finish, he unclasped his seatbelt, bent down, and lifted her in his arms, carrying her upstairs.
