From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 101

Her mother would be fine. She had to be.

Five hours later, Madeline was wheeled out of the emergency room.

Dr. Vaughn approached them. "The surgery was a success, but... we have to be careful moving forward. Ms. Sterling's heart is incredibly fragile now. She can't handle any more stress."

"The blast wave to her back caused severe trauma. She needs complete rest for a while," he added.

"Thank you, Dr. Vaughn," Julian said, tears of relief in his eyes as he gratefully shook the doctor's hand.

"You should go see the patient. Let me know when she wakes up," Dr. Vaughn instructed.

Julian couldn't wait. He hurried alongside the nurses as they wheeled the unconscious Madeline back to her room.

Harrison followed closely behind.

The taut string in Lydia's mind finally snapped. A frantic wave of exhaustion and fear flooded her chest, making her legs weak. She grabbed Alistair's arm to steady herself. "Dr. Vaughn, if you didn't operate on Eleanor... will she..."

"Eleanor is in her final days. She's eighty-nine years old, and there is no cure. Whether I performed the surgery or another cardiothoracic surgeon did, the outcome would have been exactly the same."

"It would take a miracle."

"Don't be too hard on yourself," Alistair said softly.

Lydia nodded and thanked him. Remembering the cold, desolate look in Xavier's eyes, an unbearable ache tightened her chest.

She walked into her mother's room in a daze. Madeline's face was terrifyingly pale, but her breathing was steady and peaceful.

A news alert chimed in the quiet room.

She looked up at the phone of another patient's family member out in the hallway.

Breaking News: The wife of The Foster Group's CEO poisoned, left permanently infertile!

It had to be Cecilia who leaked the news!

Furious flames danced in Lydia's eyes. "Julian, Harrison, I need to step out for a bit."

"Lydia, where are you going?"

Harrison's voice chased after her, but she didn't even hear him.

Lydia drove straight to the Sutton family mansion.

"Miss Lydia?"

The maid who opened the door looked surprised. "I'll go tell Mr. Sutton."

It was the first time she had set foot in this house since her mother took her away.

"Don't bother."

Lydia stopped the maid and strode inside. From the courtyard to the foyer, every plant and tree looked exactly the same.

The memory of Cecilia being whipped by Arthur flashed through her mind.

She raised an eyebrow and stepped into the living room. Hearing the sound of relaxed laughter coming from the second floor, she casually grabbed a golf club from the corner, raised it high, and smashed it into the room's opulent displays of wealth.

Hearing the commotion, the people upstairs stepped out of their rooms.

"Lydia, have you lost your mind?"

Arthur stood on the second-floor landing, glaring down with blazing anger.

Beside him stood the ever-elegant Frederick, the delicate Sierra, and Dr. Lane.

Lydia suddenly remembered something Sierra had said: "I should have gone crazy the day you betrayed my mother and brought your mistress and her bastard into our home. I went crazy far too late..."

She swung the golf club again, shattering the framed photo of their perfect little family of three, then tore through the antique paintings.
