From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 145

Lydia shot a cold glance at Cecilia's stomach. "Didn't you say that once she joined the family, she'd have two kids in three years and give me two brothers?"

Back then, Meredith had been extremely satisfied with Cecilia.

At the mention of this, Meredith's face immediately fell, and she shot a displeased look at Cecilia.

"You want me to learn from her? Are you cursing me?" In just a few words, Lydia made the four members of the Sutton family turn livid.

Sierra couldn't hold back. "Lydia, is that any way to speak to an elder? My mom is your stepmother, after all. When your mom abandoned you, it was my mom who..."

Lydia couldn't be bothered to entertain Sierra. She simply shot her a look of contempt. Being ignored made Sierra look utterly defeated and humiliated.

"You child, I haven't seen you for a mere two years, and you've grown as sharp-tongued as your mother..." Meredith also began to lose her temper.

"As what as my mother? My mother is the most highly decorated medical expert in the history of Averton University. Half of the Sutton family's empire was built on her back, and you all..."

"Alright, alright, Mr. Foster, why don't you take this girl to take a seat." Arthur couldn't bear to listen anymore. He stopped his mother, signaling her not to provoke Lydia any further.

Lydia finally shut her mouth. As she left with Frederick, she brushed past Xavier.

A cold touch grazed the back of her hand, startling her. She looked toward his hand, realizing she must have accidentally hit it. Turning back, she saw Arthur speaking to Xavier with a look of overwhelming flattery, before arranging for him to sit at another seat of honor.

That table was a gathering of Averton's most influential figures from the worlds of business, politics, and the military.

Even as Mrs. Foster, she rarely saw so many heavyweights in one place.

She never expected Arthur to be this influential, but on second thought, it made sense. They all needed medical supplies, and only The Sutton Group could produce drugs that were both cheap and fast-acting. Several of their medications were even integrated into the social healthcare system.

However, Cecilia, who usually loved to show off, was surprisingly quiet today.

She hadn't said a word even when mocked by Lydia, and despite encountering a prominent figure like Xavier, she hadn't led Sierra over to schmooze and gain face.

She stood at a distance with a gloomy expression, looking toward Xavier's direction with what seemed like fear or apprehension.

But then again, Xavier could be quite intimidating at times.

Lydia didn't dwell on it. She looked away and poured herself some wine.

Seeing Meredith looking so jubilant on stage made her feel a surge of hatred, and she also hated herself for having believed her back then. She downed glass after glass of whiskey, vodka, and champagne.

She could have had another family member once.

On the morning of the day Arthur brought Cecilia and Sierra to their door, her mother had told her she was going to have a little brother, saying it would be a surprise for her father.
