From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 150

Lydia stepped out of the bathroom, saw the incoming call, and deftly swiped to answer. "Joanna?"

"Lydia, where are you?"

"Moonlight Cove, do you know it?"

"You're coming over? Do you want me to get ready and wait for you downstairs?"

She smiled. "What happened? Where are you taking me?"

"I'll find out when we get there?"

"Did you prepare a surprise?"

Listening to Joanna stammering, she agreed.

She hung up and went into the walk-in closet. Picking out a simple outfit, her hand inadvertently brushed past the two luxury outfits Xavier had given her.

She remembered what he had said today at the tactical base: he was the one backing her.

The feeling of being protected, even if it was traded for keeping his grandmother company, still felt really nice.

Lydia changed and walked out.

Gable hurried over. "Miss, it's so late. Where are you going?"

"You just sobered up. Going out and catching the wind makes it easy to catch a cold. Why don't you wait until tomorrow?"

"Aren't all the cars at Tidal Crest Manor?"

"Don't worry, Joanna is waiting for me downstairs."

"Alright then." Gable turned back to the closet and draped a white cashmere sweater over her shoulders. "Wear some extra layers."

She smiled and nodded.

Sometimes, she felt Gable's care for her exceeded that of a nanny for an employer.

It was almost as if Gable treated her like a daughter.

Lydia carried her purse downstairs, and the Cullinan roared to a stop.

She stared in surprise at Sebastian in the driver's seat.

"Lydia, get in. We need to hurry and stop Sierra!" Joanna pushed open the passenger door and pulled Lydia into the back seat.

Although she had no idea what they were supposed to stop Sierra from doing,

Joanna must have had a reason for asking her to come.

The car sped out of Moonlight Cove.

Her hand was gripped tightly by Joanna. Her heart was racing, her emotions agitated. She looked so tense and anxious, as if something was tearing her apart.

Lydia wrapped an arm around Joanna's shoulders to comfort her.

"Ah—"

A piercing scream tore through the air.

Joanna frantically pulled her along in the direction of the sound.

She stumbled after Joanna, her hand slowly slipping from her grasp.

Watching Joanna sprint ahead anxiously, she slowed her pace.

She was too exhausted and didn't want to get tangled up with them any further.

"Mr. Foster, Sierra is just a child spoiled rotten by her mother. Please don't take what happened tonight to heart."

"I wonder if you've spoken to Lydia yet?"

"Please don't let her mother revoke the patent authorization?"

A familiar voice suddenly reached her ears.

She stopped in her tracks and turned her head toward the sound.

Through the slightly ajar door, the figures of Arthur and Frederick came into view.

The man sat straight on the sofa, his legs casually crossed. His gaze was dark and unreadable as he stared at Arthur across from him.

"Most of the patents for the major drug lines mandated by the government belong to Madeline. If she revokes the patent authorization, The Sutton Group will definitely lose our government contracts. Without the government's partnership, other pharmaceutical companies will lose confidence in us as well. The losses to The Sutton Group will be incalculable." Seeing that he remained silent, Arthur continued, "I transferred those patents to her for zero dollars, with the clause explicitly stating that The Sutton Group can continue using them for thirty years, and the annual ten-million-dollar licensing fee is clearly laid out."
