“No wonder you've been acting so weird lately. Were you worried I'd be mad, or did you think my divorce with Frederick would make things awkward for you two?”
Seeing Joanna's uncomfortable expression, she laughed. “It won't affect you guys at all. Frederick and I are getting divorced, not declaring a blood feud. Besides, Sebastian is brilliant, handsome, and comes from a legendary legal family. He's a total catch.”
“It's not him...” Joanna mumbled, dropping her voice.
“Not him? Then who?” Lydia hooked her arm through Joanna's. “I'm flying out in thirteen days. Are you seriously not going to let me meet the guy?”
“Are we best friends or not? I thought we grew up sharing ballet tights.”
Joanna, seemingly unable to withstand the interrogation, stammered, “It is Sebastian. Just like you thought.”
“So when are we grabbing dinner so you can officially introduce us?”
“How about after I get my divorce certificate the day after tomorrow, but before I leave the country?”
Upon getting Joanna's confirmation, the last bit of worry in Lydia's heart dissolved.
This was perfect.
They were both heading toward beautiful futures.
Lydia said her goodbyes to Joanna and headed to the hospital.
Upstairs, Frederick ordered coldly, “Throw her in the water.”
Arthur couldn't bear to do it himself, but seeing Sierra writhing shamelessly on the floor humiliated him. He immediately called Cecilia Byron.
When Cecilia arrived and saw Frederick completely fine, she was so shocked she didn't dare breathe a word. She quickly ordered the hotel maids to drag Sierra into the bathroom.
The sound of running water was drowned out by Sierra's ear-piercing shrieks.
Frederick stood tall and unmoving, his dark gaze locked onto the closed elevator doors, briefly lost in thought.
He recalled the terrifying calmness in Lydia's eyes.
“I have work to deal with. I'm leaving.”
Dropping the careless excuse, he strode toward the elevators.
Arthur and Cecilia hurried out to stop him, but Sebastian easily brushed them off, assuring them that a top-tier physician was on the way and Ms. Sutton would be perfectly fine.
Frederick's usually composed, measured steps were hurried as he stepped out of the elevator in the lobby, but Lydia was already gone.
Sebastian jogged out to catch up.
Frederick frowned slightly. “Why did you and Joanna bring her here?”
