From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 17

It wasn't a tie clip.

She had spent a month carefully picking it out, and it wasn't for him?

His brow furrowed slightly as he stared blankly at the crumpled white document, losing all interest.

Caleb was equally surprised. "Mr. Foster, the madam's gifts are usually very thoughtful. Perhaps it's something truly special."

The man nodded nonchalantly. "You can head out."

Once Caleb left, his long fingers brushed against the pink ribbon tied around the rolled-up white paper.

Just then, the door Caleb had closed was pushed open.

"Frederick."

Sierra's face was flushed red, her footsteps wobbly as she stumbled toward him, practically throwing herself into his arms. Her flailing hands knocked the files off his desk, sending the gift box crashing to the floor. The divorce papers, still bound by the pink ribbon, rolled into a corner.

She sat on his lap, wrapping her soft arms around his neck, her breath warm. "Frederick, my head hurts so much."

"I'll have someone bring up some hangover soup," he said gently.

Through her hazy vision, the usually stern man's handsome face looked remarkably soft, making her heart race. "Hangover soup is so bitter. You have to feed it to me."

"Okay."

In the quiet of the night, the man's deep, doting voice was especially seductive.

Sierra thought about how, in 27 days, he would get divorced and marry her. Maybe they would be bound together forever. Satisfied, a smile curled on her lips as she leaned weakly against him and let him lead her downstairs.

...

Exhausted, Lydia wheeled her suitcase into Moonlight Cove.

A fully furnished 2,500-square-foot apartment.

Ready for her to move right in.

She tidied up the master bedroom and made do for the night.

She thought she'd struggle to sleep in an unfamiliar bed, but after taking some cold medicine, she passed out the second her head hit the pillow.

Waking up the next day.
