From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 33

"Lydia, Professor Thorne is hosting a seminar at the university today. Do you want to go?" Because she didn't have her car, Lydia was sitting in the passenger seat of Harrison's Maybach.

She wanted to go but didn't dare. "Professor Thorne probably won't be happy to see me."

"He is stubborn, yes. But if he knew you were joining my institute and returning to the research world, he would definitely put the past behind him and welcome you back."

"Maybe next time?"

When she went to Harvard for her master's and doctorate, her mentor had high hopes that she would return and take over his research institute. Sadly, when she came back, she told him she was getting married. To integrate into the Foster family and become Frederick's solid support system, she had willingly abandoned her research.

She would never forget the utter disappointment in her mentor's eyes. He was so angry, yet he suppressed his emotions and tried desperately to talk her out of it.

"A good relationship should help you both grow. Someone who truly loves you would never want you to give up your dreams just to make him successful."

"Frederick Foster is not the right man for you."

But at the time, she didn't listen to a single word. Her mind and heart were completely consumed by Frederick.

Her mentor had stormed out in a rage, leaving behind one final warning. "If you marry him, I'll pretend I never had you as a student."

After she got married, her mentor truly erased her from his records. No one could find her name anywhere. Aside from a few of his other students, no one knew she had once been the prized protégé of the top expert in the semiconductor field.

"Harrison, wait until I actually achieve something. Then I'll beg him to forgive me." She didn't have the face to see him now.

"Today's topic is quantum tunneling, which happens to be the biggest hurdle in our current research. I was hoping you could listen in and give me some advice." Harrison sounded a bit disappointed.

"Well..." Hearing the topic, her interest was instantly piqued. "Let me go home and change first. I'll put on a baseball cap so he won't recognize me."

"Sure."

Harrison drove Lydia to Moonlight Cove, realizing she had already moved out of Tidal Crest Manor. Even though he had decided to treat her solely as a friend from now on, a faint ripple still crossed his heart.

"I won't go up."

"I'll be right back down."

She was wearing a cute cartoon pajama set the nurse had helped her buy, along with a pair of cloth shoes. It was far too embarrassing to wear to an academic setting. She needed to change into her own clothes and properly put away Xavier's trench coat so it wouldn't get ruined.

By the time they arrived at the university, the seminar had already started.

As a distinguished alumnus and Silas's star student, Harrison immediately drew everyone's attention upon entering the hall and was invited up to the podium by the professor.

Sierra immediately rushed over to him. "Freddie, look! Lydia didn't just smash my laptop, she's causing a scene at Professor Thorne's seminar. Have security throw her out. Professor Thorne absolutely despises academic failures."

She still wanted Silas to take her on as his final student.

She couldn't let Lydia drag her down.

Lydia retrieved her notebook from the trash, sat back down, and ignored them both. Suddenly, a large hand clamped onto her elbow, hauling her up from her seat.

She looked at Frederick.

The man parted his lips, issuing a cold command. "It's working hours. Get back to The Foster Group."

"If the students in the back aren't interested in my lecture, please leave." Silas's aged, authoritative voice echoed through the hall, demanding respect without anger.

Terrified that her mentor would recognize her, and even more terrified that he would discover what a mess her life had become and how disappointed he would be, she swallowed her grievances, turned around, and walked out of the seminar.

Once outside, she couldn't hide her disappointment. She received a call from Daniel. "Sebastian has already selected the mediator and the judge. It looks like they'll submit the application tomorrow."

She stood at the bottom of the steps, looking at Frederick's imposing figure being invited onto the stage. Her voice was resolute. "Got it."
