From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 57

"Stop talking nonsense!" Sierra immediately snapped back. "Lydia was pinning me to the floor! Why didn't you mention that part?!"

Penelope instantly clamped her mouth shut.

The CEO of The Foster Group, his wife, and the heiress of the Sutton family—this was an explosive aristocratic scandal. As a mere therapist, she was in way over her head. She had already taken a massive risk just by stating the unbiased facts.

Lydia offered Penelope a gentle, reassuring look. She turned her attention back to Frederick, waiting for his verdict.

"Let's go to the hospital and get these wounds treated properly first," he commanded.

He was going to suppress the incident entirely.

"No. The police will be here any minute. No one is leaving until the investigation is complete."

Lydia refused to yield a single inch. Frederick frowned deeply, shooting a displeased look at Penelope. "You called the police?"

Lydia stood up, shielding Penelope from his intimidating glare. "I told them to call."

"Do you think a vicious sibling rivalry making the headlines will reflect well on anyone?" His gaze turned lethally cold. "As Mrs. Foster, you should know where the boundaries lie."

"Call them back and cancel it."

"I will not cancel it, and you are not taking her out of this room!"

"This must be investigated thoroughly today."

Fighting through the throbbing pain, she grabbed Frederick's arm.

Sierra immediately hugged his other arm tighter.

"Frederick, my face hurts so much. Am I going to be disfigured? Please, take me to the hospital now," she pleaded piteously.

Slowly, he pulled his arm out of Lydia's grasp.

Lydia watched as his hand settled gently over Sierra's forearm. "I'll take you to the hospital right now," he soothed.

Lydia's heart throbbed in tandem with her bleeding hand.

Right then, the police arrived. After taking statements from both sides, the lead officer sighed. "It would be best for everyone involved to settle this privately."

"Then I won't press charges against Lydia," Sierra said sweetly, clearly playing the bigger person for Frederick's benefit.

"Mrs. Foster, what is your stance?"

She looked straight at the officer. "This therapy room has a continuous audio recording. I request that you pull the files."

"Audio recording?" The officer scanned the ceiling. "Is there a security camera? We didn't spot one."

"Dr. Vance, could you explain?" Lydia prompted.

"The right comes from the fact that you are mentally unwell, and as your husband, I am your sole legal guardian," he stated icily. He looped an arm around Sierra and steered her toward the door. "If you have any further inquiries, direct them to my lawyer."

She lunged forward, blocking the doorway. "You know perfectly well that she was the one trying to kill me."

"Lydia, stop spouting nonsense! You were the one trying to hurt me, and you're the one who ruined my face!" Sierra cried.

"Both of you are injured," Frederick said, his tone softening slightly. "Sierra's facial wound is far more severe. Leave it at that."

"So even if she actively tries to end my life, you'll still protect her?"

The man frowned in deep displeasure. "She is your sister. Why would she want your life?"

"She was being reckless and foolish, but are you going to act just as foolishly?"

Watching the sheer devastation pool in her eyes, Frederick suddenly remembered how she would jolt awake from nightmares every night after the car accident. A rare flicker of softness breached his defenses. He reached out to pull her by the waist, his voice dropping low. "As long as I'm around, no one will take your life. You've thrown your tantrum. Let's get you to the hospital."

Trapped against his chest, a wave of absolute nausea washed over her.

No matter what atrocious acts Sierra committed, he would always be her shield.

Staring up at this cold, unfeeling man, shattered tears spilled from her eyes. The agony was tearing her apart from the inside out, but she vowed it would be the last time he hurt her. Lydia raised her uninjured hand and shoved him away fiercely.

"You won't be able to dictate my life for much longer, Frederick."
