From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 74

His and Sierra's?

She received no answer.

With a single call of 'Frederick,' Sierra easily summoned him away.

Leaving behind only a scattering of medical reports on the ground.

Lydia slowly crouched down, picking up the papers one by one.

"Ms. Sterling, I will do my best, but the poison has been in your system for too long..."

Silas's diagnosis echoed in her mind. "I'm afraid the damage is irreversible."

In the persistent drizzle, she couldn't tell if her face was wet with rain or tears. Her hands clenched tightly around the reports as she threw them into a trash can, one after another.

She stood at the hospital entrance until she was completely drenched. It wasn't until the jarring blare of a car horn snapped her back to reality that she noticed a black Bentley gliding past, revealing the man's handsome profile through the rear window.

Forcing herself to calm down, Lydia drove straight to Daniel Quinn's law firm.

"Lydia, what happened to you?" Daniel asked, seeing her soaked to the bone. He turned to his assistant. "Do we have a clean change of clothes? Bring them for Ms. Sterling."

"No need, Daniel."

"I have clothes in my car."

Lydia quickly stopped them.

"Then get Ms. Sterling a dry towel and make her a cup of hot cocoa," Daniel instructed kindly.

Once the assistant dropped off the towel and hot cocoa and left the room, Lydia pulled her phone from her purse. "Daniel, I have something I need you to listen to."

Daniel nodded.

She immediately hit play on the audio file.

Sierra's confession from the night before echoed through the spacious office.

Lydia explained everything that had happened, noticing a flicker of sympathy in Daniel's eyes.

She forced a smile to show she was fine, suppressing the bitter anguish churning in her gut. "Does this count as a confession? Can this recording prove she was the mastermind behind it?"

"Based on just these few sentences, it's very difficult to legally tie her to them. Not unless you can find concrete evidence, like their transaction records on the dark web. But messages on the dark web disappear the moment they're sent. It's a lawless void," Daniel explained. "I'm afraid it's practically untraceable."

As utter despair filled her eyes, Daniel gently offered her a tissue. She reached out and grabbed his hand tightly. "Daniel, I'll be able to get my divorce papers tomorrow, right?"

She asked like a drowning woman clinging to a lifeline.

"Yes."

Getting his absolute confirmation, she smiled through her tears.

Releasing his hand, she took the tissue and wiped her eyes.

The doctor had told her the drug must have been slipped into her food or drinks, asking about her daily routine to help figure out who the culprit was.

She had racked her brain but couldn't think of anyone who had the opportunity to poison her constantly.

When it came to her meals and living space, the only people with that kind of access were Frederick and Gable.

But Gable hadn't been with her for two full years; she only started working for her two months after the wedding.

If she couldn't pinpoint who was poisoning her, then she had to completely eliminate the source. She had to leave Frederick.
