From His Invisible Wife to the World's Icon novel Chapter 84

"If you don't want the photos of your daughter being assaulted leaked everywhere, convince her to divorce Frederick immediately! Otherwise, your miserable fate will be her future," Cecilia Byron's venomous curse hissed through the speaker.

Lydia trembled with pure rage.

She hung up, blocked the number, and walked into the hospital room. Her mother was awake, looking at her with devastating sadness.

"Lydia..." Madeline's eyes filled with tears as agitation seized her.

This was only the second time she had ever seen her mother cry.

Even during the ugly divorce with her father and the custody battle that tore them apart, Madeline hadn't shed a single tear.

She had only used a fiercely strong voice to promise she would find a way to come back for her.

The first time she cried was when she discovered Arthur had spent years manipulating Lydia into believing her mother had abandoned her.

Lydia rushed to her side. "Mom, I wasn't assaulted."

"Really?" Madeline still looked terrified.

"Really," Lydia promised. Seeing the room was empty, she leaned in and lowered her voice. "Not only that, but I have concrete evidence that Sierra hired those men to attack me. I'm taking it to the police tomorrow."

"Thank God, Lydia." Madeline gripped her hand tightly, a spark of vindication flashing in her tear-filled eyes.

Lydia couldn't help but pull her mother into a tight embrace.

It had been a terrifying false alarm, but the family left the hospital breathing sighs of relief.

Harrison was busy at the research institute and couldn't join them at the Zane residence. He glanced at Frederick standing a short distance away and frowned. "What's his deal?"

Harrison found it bizarre that Frederick had shown up to Madeline's wedding registration.

For years, Frederick hadn't shown the slightest interest in Lydia's personal life.

His sudden attentiveness put Harrison on edge.
