Lydia tracked down Officer Evans, the traffic cop who had handled her case two years ago. He apologetically told her they still hadn't found the driver who hit her, assuming she was there for an update on the case.
"Officer Evans, when you arrived at the scene that day, what exactly did it look like?"
"The driver had already fled. Mr. Foster was holding you while you were unconscious, loading you into the ambulance."
"He was pale as a ghost, terrified he was going to lose you," Officer Evans recalled softly. "He was covered in blood himself. His injuries looked extremely severe."
Hearing that, the suffocating pain in Lydia's chest eased a fraction.
Back then, she had suffered a severe concussion that temporarily blinded her. In her hazy, blurred vision, she had seen Frederick wearing a hospital gown.
To make it easier for him to care for her, they had shared a VIP room.
He hadn't left her side for a single day.
If it wasn't him, who else could it have been?
"Thank you, Officer Evans. If there's any progress on the case, please notify me directly. You don't need to contact Mr. Foster anymore," Lydia requested quietly. Though surprised, he agreed.
Next, she called Silas. "Silas, I'm going to the police. Will you testify for me?"
His voice was steady. "I will tell them exactly what I found."
An hour later, she saw Frederick again—at the precinct.
To her shock, even Seraphina Gates and Trenton had shown up.
Seraphina looked as arrogant as ever, while Trenton was sporting a black eye and a bruised jaw, clearly having provoked the wrong person recently.
"Have you lost your mind? Accusing your own family of poisoning you?" Seraphina snapped the second she walked in.
Lydia ignored her, sitting rigidly in the main lobby as Mildred approached, flanked protectively by Frederick and Sierra.
Mildred had always despised Sierra.
Seeing them walking arm-in-arm now felt like a brutal slap to the face, piercing right through Lydia's calm facade.
Mildred stopped in front of her, her eyes brimming with hurt and disappointment. "Lydie, I pray every single day for you and Freddie to have a baby. How could I ever poison you?"
Frederick stepped forward, wrapping a harsh grip around Lydia's wrist and violently yanking her out of her chair.
They were suddenly inches apart, his blazing fury tangling with her suffocating grief.
"Mildred would never hurt you."
"Drop the charges right now."
Staring into his cold, merciless eyes, a broken laugh escaped her lips. "Frederick, the toxicology report proved there was poison in the medicine she gave me. The evidence is undeniable!"
"I drank that poison for two solid years. I can never be a mother!" Tears burned in her eyes, but she forced them back with everything she had. "You want me to drop the charges? Go to hell!"
A loud gasp came from Seraphina. "Infertile? What's going on?"
A flicker of shock flashed through Frederick's eyes, but it was instantly swallowed by raw anger and absolute ice.
She violently wrenched her arm out of his grip and turned her back, refusing to look at any of them.
An officer stepped out, calling them into the interrogation room.
"Mildred, the police will clear your name."
"My sister is completely psychotic."
