From Wife to Aunt: His Worst Nightmare novel Chapter 47

"Yeah. Sell it," I answered without hesitation.

I used to think Steve's love for me was like that necklace—one of a kind.

But Steve had changed. Our marriage had rotted from the inside out. Now, even looking at that so-called token of love felt like pure irony.

Juliet sold the jewelry for me, paid my mother's medical bills, and then sent the samples from Steve and Dorothy to a well-known DNA testing center in Hevark.

Two days later, the results came back.

The biological relationship between Dorothy and Steve was 99.99%. They were indeed father and daughter.

I'd known this would be the result.

Yet when I stared at the dense lines of text on the paternity report, memories of everything Steve and I had been through from childhood until now flashed through my mind.

We used to be such a loving couple. But everything changed three years ago, the moment Dorothy was born.

I was no longer the most important person in Steve's life—just someone he could cast aside without a second thought.

"Well, this result is pretty good." I smiled faintly and said to Juliet, "Keep it for me. If I leave it here and Steve sees it, he'd definitely retaliate against me."

Juliet held the report as if it were a priceless treasure. "Nice! We're halfway there. Now think of a way to get Isabel's sample—hair or nails will do. Once her DNA test with Dorothy comes out, Steve and Isabel will be branded as shameless adulterers. In court, they won't be able to deny a thing!"

I'd only taken a week off work, even though the doctor said my foot needed at least three months of rest.

But my work couldn't wait, and neither could I.

After all, next Wednesday, Brandon would bring Isabel back to the Yaxley residence. How could I possibly miss that show?
