From Wife to Aunt: His Worst Nightmare novel Chapter 69

I didn't know if it was because I was nervous, or if it was because I hadn't had a sip of water the entire night, but the pain in my stomach began to spread across my entire body.

I suddenly tasted something salty in my mouth and vomited up a mouthful of blood.

Even I was stunned as I stared at the dark red liquid spreading across the floor.

Could my gastritis really have turned cancerous, just as the doctor had warned?

"Zara."

Steve immediately picked me up and walked outside in long strides. He didn't wait for the driver. Instead, he drove me to the hospital by himself.

I stopped coughing up blood once I got in the car, but the pain in my stomach remained intense.

I glanced at the man beside me, driving in silence with his lips pressed tight. A bitter smile tugged at mine. "Do you believe me now? I didn't lie to you, Steve."

Steve still said nothing and only sped up even more.

When we arrived at the hospital, he carried me and sprinted straight to the emergency room.

From that angle, I could only see his tense, locked jaw. It had been a long time since I had last seen Steve look worried about me.

After the ER doctor assessed my condition, he ordered an emergency endoscopy. Suspecting gastrointestinal bleeding, he hurried me into the procedure room.

After an hour, we had the results.

Steve had already disappeared.

I thought he had abandoned me. But after a short while, he returned. I caught a faint scent of tobacco on him.

Steve rarely smoked. He only smoked when he was feeling distraught. Did he smoke just now?

"What are the results?" he asked the doctor, his brows furrowed.

The doctor passed him the endoscopy report and grimly reported, "I checked Ms. Yaxley's medical records from her last visit and learned that she has very serious chronic gastritis, coupled with a gastric ulcer. She must've vomited blood this time because of a bleeding ulcer."

"Gastric ulcer?"

Steve was even more confused and continued asking him, "How could she get this disease at such a young age?"

The doctor said, "Ms. Yaxley has a history of iron-deficiency anemia, and her records show she has been a vegetarian for a long time. An unbalanced diet likely contributed to the worsening of her gastritis."
