Primo popped into her head. “Host? Baar ran out in the middle of the night to negotiate terms for you. You’re not even a little touched?”
Margaret flipped to the next page of her notes. “Why would I go when he can do it? The Federation’s the one begging me right now, not the other way around.”
Primo said, “Fair… But hey, Baar’s actually getting better at this whole emotional intelligence thing. He used to be so clueless and blunt. Now he at least gets that he should go get what you want instead of making you do it.”
Margaret didn’t reply. The corner of her mouth tugged up for just a split second.
She pulled up the Empire’s email again and skimmed through it, tapping a finger lightly against Greven’s name on the screen.
Margaret set down her Holo-bracelet. It had been an information-heavy day-top-secret Earth files, playing both the Empire and Federation against each other. Her brain had been running nonstop all day. Right now, all she wanted was a hot bath and to stop thinking about everything.
She’d barely gotten halfway through taking off her clothes when there was a knock at the door.
By now, she could tell exactly who was knocking just from the sound.
It was Cheiron,
Margaret pulled her coat back on and opened the door. Sure enough, it was Cheiron. He’d changed into a soft dark gray knit loungewear top and held a thin data pad in one hand.
“What’s up?” she asked.
“We’re going to the palace in three days. There are some etiquette details I should go over with you beforehand. Cheiron held up the data pad. “Got a minute?”
Margaret stepped aside and let him in.
They sat down in the small sitting area just outside her bedroom. Cheiron set the data pad on the coffee table, but before he could even pull up the files, there was another knock at the door.
Three sharp, rapid knocks rang out, followed by a muffled “My Lady-” through the wood.
Margaret closed her eyes for a second, sighing internally,
She walked over and opened the door. Timothy was standing there, clutching his pillow to his chest. A tiny golden fox perched on his shoulder, flicking its tail back and forth.
“What do you want?” Margaret’s tone was sharp, but her hand still drifted automatically toward the little fox on his shoulder.
“Came to sleep with you,” Timothy said, as if it were the most normal thing in the world. He glanced past her and spotted Cheiron on the couch.

His gaze dimmed for a split second, but the smile on his face only grew brighter.
“Who said you could come over?” Margaret asked.

“I decided on my own.” Timothy hugged his pillow fighter. “It’s been forever since I got to cuddle with you, My Lady. I made four warp jumps today. I’m exhausted.”

Margaret was just about to shoo him back to his room when she heard more footsteps coming down the hallway.
Tyrone and Quentin were walking side by side toward her door,
The golden fox had been wagging its tail like crazy, trying to nuzzle its head against Margaret’s palm. But the second it sensed Tyrone and Quentin approaching, every hair on its body stood straight up.
It let out a quiet, whimpering sound, then turned into a streak of golden light and darted straight back into Timothy’s body without hesitation.
Margaret and Timothy locked eyes. Both of them looked confused-and wary.
They were all SSS-class, but these two made Timothy’s spirit beast feel instinctive fear? Tyrone and Quentin were hiding way more secrets than she’d initially thought.
“Sorry to bother you.” Tyrone tilted his head, glancing at the scene-one person sitting inside, one standing in the doorway. His smile widened. “We’ve been on Prime Planet a few days now, but we haven’t actually had a proper chat with you yet.”
Margaret stood in the doorway. Timothy was on her left, clutching his pillow. Tyrone and Quentin flanked her right side. Behind her, Cheiron sat upright on the couch.
She felt like a dorm RA in a college dorm-everyone showed up at her door for every little thing.
“Did you all plan this or something?” she asked.
“No,” all four of them answered at the exact same time,
Margaret rubbed her temples. “Fine. If we’re gonna talk, we’ll all talk together. There’s a meeting room downstairs. This place is too small for all of you.”
Cheiron stood up the second she said it.

He picked up the data pad from the coffee table and walked to the door, As he passed Timothy, he gave the golden-haired man a longer, assessing look.
“My stuff can wait. We’ve got three days.” Cheiron gave Margaret a small nod. “Get some rest.”
With that, he turned and left-clean and straightforward, no lingering, no extra seconds wasted.
Cheiron left, but Timothy had no intention of going anywhere,

In the two seconds Margaret was distracted, he ducked right under her arm and slipped inside. He flopped straight down onto the sitting room couch, still clutching his pillow.

Margaret frowned. “Timothy”
