But Eileen had done
Baar realized he’d seriously underestimated Timothy. It was time to update his opinion.
Timothy wasn’t just born with good genes. He’d been raised by a genuinely strong woman.

Eileen hadn’t just given him money or connections. She had given him a principle. When he picked someone to stand with, he went all in.
And this nineteen-year-old golden-haired kid was living by that rule, betting every last thing he owned on it
“Once the warrant goes out, every transport hub on Prime Planet will have her facial ID on file.” Baar pushed his wandering thoughts aside and got back to business, his tone as sharp and cold as ever. “She’s safe for now, out in the Stillstar Galaxy. But we can’t stay in the capital much longer.”
“No rush.” Timothy closed one of his holo-screens, reached for the juice on the table, and took a sip. “The warrant is for her, not us. I’m the heir to the Hurst Group-the Empire won’t dare touch me. Going after me would mean declaring war on the entire Hurst Group. My mom would hit them with economic sanctions so hard they’d never recover. And they definitely won’t mess with you, Commander of the Federation. The Empire’s stupid, but not that stupid. They won’t give the Federation an excuse to declare war right now.”
He set the glass down and wiped his mouth casually with the back of his hand. “Right now, the Imperial Household’s scared of one thing more than us: that list getting out even further. As long as I’ve got the rest of the evidence, they’ll think twice about coming after me. The risk’ll be too high. That’s why I’m sticking around a couple more days. I’ll leave once the last batch of evidence is out there.”
Timothy pulled up the second batch of core evidence: location blueprints for three of Greven’s secret labs, plus funding approval forms signed by six noble senators.
He said, “There are three sets of originals. One’s with me, one’s in Tyrone’s intel network, and the third was already sent anonymously to the Federation’s military tribunal.”
Baar turned to look at him.
Timothy tilted his head, as if what he was saying was totally obvious. “What? You can’t get involved on the Federation side, can you, Commander Iverson? If you make a move, those old military hotshots will know you’re in on this with us. Stuff like this is perfect for businessmen. Fast, clean, no loose ends. Doesn’t matter if we can’t get into the Empire courts. The Federation’s military tribunal doesn’t answer to them. Once the Federation opens an official investigation, the Empire can’t just sweep it under the rug. They’ll have to deal with jurisdiction issues.”
曲
He held up one finger and waggled it. “Then the Imperial Household’s got two choices. They can hold
their own trial for those noble senators, or they can sit quietly and let the Federation hit them with diplomatic heat. Either way, we win.”
Baar stared at Timothy’s profile and suddenly remembered what Margaret had said when she ruffled his hair. “Win the PR war on Prime Planet. Don’t let killing that guy go to waste.”
The kid is delivering. Every move is sharp, every hit lands hard.

Timothy has three times as many aces up his sleeve as they do. And he has the galaxy’s richest person backing him, betting everything on this win.
Baar went quiet for a few seconds.
You and your mom.” he said, his voice gruff-he clearly wasn’t used to giving compliments. “I didn’t give you enough credit before.”
Timothy froze for a second, then his whole face lit up. He grinned, wide and bright. “Whoa, Commander Iverson just gave a compliment? I’m recording this. I’m gonna tell Margaret.”
Baar frowned. “Shut up and get back to work.”
“No. held on-let me record this first,”
“One more word, and I’m dumping your juice.” Baar delivered the weakest threat possible in his usual tough-talking tone.
Timothy snapped his mouth shut instantly, but he couldn’t wipe the grin off his face. He went back to his Holo-bracelet, his fingers flying even faster than before.
When this is all over, I’m gonna bring Mom to meet My Lady.
I’ll let her see for herself that her bet is worth every credit.
Dawn broke over the Stillstar Galaxy with no sunlight. The purple sky hung low and soft, quiet and beautiful.
Margaret sat in a wicker chair in the courtyard, holding a cup of cold milk.
She couldn’t stop thinking about how off Primo had been last night. The main systein was unreachable, and the system was getting tired-all these little red flags told her things were way more complicated than she’d thought.
It drove her crazy, not having control over where this was going,
She hadn’t tried to call Primo again. It was not because she didn’t want to—but because she didn’t want to
