The wind and sand were brutal. Margaret hauled both men behind a massive rock outcropping that blocked the worst of it.

“Primo” She pinged the system. “Topical wound treatment. Fastest and strongest you’ve got.”

“On it! Still pulling from the credit line.” Primo had clearly been rattled by the space battle.

Margaret turned her wrist, and two oddly shaped medical spray canisters materialized in her palm, along with several rolls of nano-bandages.

Tyrone, tissue still pressed to his nose, let his gaze drift over the supplies. Quentin looked over too.

Spatial folding technology wasn’t unheard of in the interstellar era-expensive, yes, but not impossible to come by. What was interesting was how seamlessly she’d concealed the storage node. Even Tyrone and Quentin who’d spent years navigating the black market’s darkest corners hadn’t spotted a trace of it.

Neither of them asked. Their tacit understanding was too well-honed for that.

Margaret went to Quentin first. The penetration wound in his shoulder was deep, the flesh torn open and raw, fabric and blood crusted together around the edges. She pulled out her tactical blade and carefully cut the material away.

Quentin’s musculature was striking-not the exaggerated bulk of a show fighter, but the sleek, coiled power of a predator. And now a wound was carved clean through it.

She aimed the spray at the wound and pressed the release. The blue solution hissed as it hit torn flesh.

Quentin didn’t make a sound or even twitch. His crimson eyes stayed fixed on her, steady and unblinking. like a wolf waiting to be soothed.

“Say something if it hurts.” She wrapped the nano-bandage around his shoulder, her movements careful and light.

Quentin watched her downturned face, the long lashes casting faint shadows beneath her eyes.

“It doesn’t hurt,” he said, his voice low and rough.

Tyrone leaned against the rock nearby, watching the scene unfold. “Quentin, the poor wounded soldier act is old. Ms. Greene, I’m about to drop dead too. Spiritual power depletion hurts a lot worse than a flesh

wound, for the record,”

Margaret tied off the bandage and turned to him. “Release your spirit beast. Let me try something”

Under normal circumstances, a female’s purification energy had limited effect on an SSS-class male suffering from spiritual power depletion. But after what had happened on the battlefield-the sheer scale of the power she’d channeled-she might actually be able to refill what Tyrone had burned through.

Tyrone, uncharacteristically, hesitated. He looked away.

Margarer frowned.

What’s this about?

She suddenly remembered something. Back in the Valoran Galaxy, Timothy’s arrogant little golden fox had tucked its tail and hidden the moment Tyrone and Quentin got close.

Even among SSS-class spirit beasts, there were levels of natural dominance that couldn’t be ignored. For Timothy to react like that, whatever these twins were carrying had to be something serious.

“What are you hiding?” Margaret’s brow furrowed. “If you die here. I’m not burying you.”

Tyrone sighed, a flicker of resignation crossing his green eyes, “Ms. Greene, it’s not that I don’t want to show you. I’m worried it’ll scare you.“

“I’ve handled Baar’s giant serpent. You think you can scare me?” Margaret rolled her eyes.

Tyrone glanced at Quentin, who returned a look that said, “You’re on your own.”

“Fine. Tyrone straightened up. “Step back a bit.”

Margaret backed up two paces, skeptical.

Tyrone closed his eyes.
