“What’s the rush?” Margaret glanced at him. “You move now, you tip them off. Darien’s faction still hasn’t been dealt with. You want to stir up more trouble?”

Tyrone spread his hands. “Whatever you say, Ms. Greene.”

“I’ll handle the list. This grudge gets settled-but when we strike, they don’t get back up.” Margaret rose to her feet. “Your job is to put together a full report on Terminus Planet. Population, resources, infrastructure. The more detailed, the better.”

Tyrone nodded.

Quentin stood behind him, the fire in his crimson eyes slowly banking down. He watched Margaret’s back, his lips parting for a moment, but in the end he said nothing.

Margaret headed for the stairs. Halfway up, she paused without turning around.

“One more thing. Next time something’s going on, don’t keep it buried. We live under the same roof. No point keeping secrets from each other.”

Tyrone let out a short laugh. “Understood.”

Margaret continued upstairs. Cheiron followed, the two of them filing into the bedroom one after the other.

“Is there something you need to tell me?” Margaret asked.

Cheiron didn’t answer right away. He turned, lifted a hand, and removed his gold-rimmed glasses, setting them down on the low table beside him.

Without the lenses, his gray eyes looked deeper, darker, like something long suppressed had finally risen to the surface,

“The person Tyrone mentioned-the one who saved Earth.” Cheiron’s voice was low. “It may have been my father.”

Margaret shifted in her seat. “Your father? You told me he disappeared years ago.”

“He did.” Cheiron walked over and sat down on the sofa across from her, “My mother was a C-class female. My father was the top S-class scientist in the Imperial Academy of Sciences. You know what that kind of rank gap means in this world.”

Margaret nodded. A gap that wide meant the female could easily burn through her spiritual realm during the calming process. Even if the male sought purification from higher-ranked females at the hospital, everyday intimacy-a kiss, an embrace-would slowly erode her spiritual realm regardless.

“So she went behind my father’s back and joined an underground spiritual power ascension trial,” Cheiron spoke more slowly now. “She died on the lab table. Full gene collapse. She didn’t leave a single word behind.”

Margaret watched him. This wasn’t the first time she’d heard the story, but Cheiron was telling it again now for a reason. There was something in it he hadn’t yet revealed.

“Who was behind the trial?” Margaret cut straight to the point.

“The official narrative blamed the black market. My father suspected the nobility.” Cheiron lifted his eyes. cold and cutting. “At that time, the black market hadn’t grown into a real power. It was scattered, fractured -it had no access to that kind of funding or advanced equipment. Only the old-blood noble houses had the resources. They wanted to artificially manufacture high-ranking females to secure their hold on power.”

Margaret’s mind was already moving, threading the pieces together. “To run an experiment that could break through a gene lock, they needed a catalyst. So they set their sights on Earth’s source core.”

“Yes.” Cheiron confirmed without hesitation. “The theory that the source core could stimulate the spiritual realm was originally proposed by my father at an internal Academy of Sciences conference. But he concluded the risks were uncontrollable and had the data forcibly sealed. He didn’t discover the truth until after my mother died—the nobility had stolen his research and restarted the experiment.”

He paused, as if steadying himself.
